I second Nathan's amazement - is that 1600 ISO, WerTicus?

A simple but cool image to take. I took this with my 40D before it died. Image tweaking was done in CaptureOne.

   Now in digital B&W...

So, which version you like best?

I like the colors in the color one, but I find the bottom left corner and wisps of clouds at the top edge distracting in the color version - less so in the b&w.

Maybe a touch more red in the house in the color version?

I like the B&W one better...could do with a lil' more contrast though.

They are both good, but since it is more of a graphical composition then the b&w serves it better in my view.  I'd touch out that bit of roof in the lower left corner perhaps.  The colors are nice, but I'd have to go with the B&W.

I like what Clyde Butcher said about the difference; that color is a duplication of nature and that b&w is an interpretation of nature.

Hey!

   Thanks guys.

I personally like the picture of the cloud and the roof in B&W better. :D

Clyde Butcher is right about that. That is one of the best saying about the difference between color and B&W I've heard. :D

There are time where I see a scene and it look a bit messy or plain but trying to look at it in B&W have totally different feel to it.

Without color the eyes and brain respond differently. I think B&W leave the eyes with shape and texture. :D Although these are from digital I personally still like the traditional B&W film. Of course with digital I could have two versions of the exact same photo.

And as for manipulation of the photo. Well, I know it had been around even before digital but for me I like to keep it straight.... I guess I'm more of the "straight photography"  But I'm OK with minor retouch but other than that I don't like to do it. :D

Take care,
Buddy :thumb:

North Narrabeen, Australia
Going through the picture archives & discovered this sunrise shot captured during March 08.  I could recall the quiteness of this place, only the faint sound of the waves & a lone fisherman was present with me then.

Thanks Buddy.  Yes, they are from the same location.  It's one of the favourite spots in Sydney for sunrise shots, weather permitting :D

Ok, these aren't photographic gold or nearly as appealing as IPY's photo's above, but I was pretty happy to be able to catch the action shot, and it makes me laugh every time I see it.

This little guy was in my backyard on Saturday with Mom looking on from the top of the hill as he explored the area.  (Pictures are 1/16 original resolution.)

I also have a 40D, and I'm trying to choose that second lens after the Kit 17-85 one.
Could you shed some light on the choosing of your Tokina 12-24 and your impressions of it?

And what tripod did you chose ipy?

Do you have enough pixels to crop that second shot while retaining good resolution?  That would be great.
