Hi bside123 and North Star and all Audio Circle members.
Would it be too much to ask both of you to share with us
Audio Circle members how and with what you took those two super photos.
I would love to take the same type of pictures.

That is one cool photo SET Man!  You captured the building, a piece of the city and a small slice of the life around it (OK it's kinda hard to see the people but you get my drift).  Really nice photo.

Hey!

Thanks Jake. :D It is fun to see the city from high up. Not sure if you ever been up on top the Empire State Building, if not I'll say it is a must do if you are in NYC.

Yes, that's New Yorkers' life... we are living in a concert, steel and glass jungle. Most New Yorkers don't pay attention much to buildings in their daily lives, they just want to get to where they want to go fast.

I'm pretty like that most of the time. But sometime when I walked past by building like this I can't help slow down a bit and look at it, admire the beauty, detail and the craftmanships those people who came before us put in way back than. :D

Anyway, can you believe it that it was finished in 1902? It is now 111 years old  :o

Take care,
Buddy :thumb:

Hi bside123 and all Audio Circle members.
Sony A-77 good camera.
Vintage macro lens also good.
ISO640 just below ISO800 when most of the time,
the noise (Electronic grain) start to show.
1/1000 sec. fast enough for hand held shooting.
F/4.5 seems to me too open, F/11 would have been better,
but F/4.5 is good to blur make out of focus the background
and the result of your shooting show me that your choice of F/4.5
is better than what I would have used.
Just enough Adobe not to make the picture too unnatural.
Good work.
In Vietnam Canon is the number one selling camera brand

Hey!

Well, look what we have here... another Sony DSLR user. I'm a long time A-mount user since the day of Minolta's film camera.

How do like the A77 so far? I'm still using the older A700 here. Would be nice to have 24MP FF body,  have been keeping an eye on the A99, almost pull a trigger while it was on sale recently. But I think I will hold out for a while longer.

I went over to have dinner with friends and where they were staying had a feeder and I stood there for a long time watching the humming birds 5 feet away. then I realized I should pull out my camera. my 135mm is very slow at auto-focusing, esp on things moving 30mph 5ft away, so it took many shots to get these, a couple are with the 24-70 (then cropped in post) . this shot is through both sliding glass windows. click [HERE] for a few others.

Hi low.pfile and all Audio Circle members.
Nice picture of the little huimming bird.
Can you please give us some parameters of the shooting?
My wife told me that there are some humming birds in Vietnam,
but in my 18 years staying here,
I never saw any, too bad for me.

Guy 13,

Cool link, did anyone check out the link to the "Life on Moss" HD macro video the photographer also did?  Highly recommended.  I will tell you that when it comes to macro photography lots of experimentation is required to get the hang of it.  That means lots of shots.

SET Man,

I can imagine there about a thousand "must dos" when visiting NYC!   Hopefully I'll get a chance to do a couple of hundred some time in the future.

FireGuy,

Nice photo of the warbird.  Did you get a ride on her?

low.pfile,

Sweet shot of the humming bird!  Looks like he was checking you out at that moment.  Guy 13, this is what I was saying above, it took many tries for low.pfile to get this shot.  I used to spend a lot of my hard earned money on film when shooting macros.  I really like the digital world now for this reason but it is sad to see film fading away because just like audio analog is still better than digital.  <EDIT>  Unless you have lots of money to apply.

My wife told me that there are some humming birds in Vietnam,
but in my 18 years staying here,
You have to "bait" them with feeders, and/or flowering plants they are attracted to.
If you lack those, the chances that you'll see one "just happen by", will be nearly zero.

Hi Bob and all Audio Circle members.
Thanks for your humming birds expert advice.
By the way, I have a jar of honey, but if I use it as a bait,
I am afraid that it will attract all the ants of Vietnam
and not a single humming bird.

Guy,
I am no hummingbird expert, but my friends house had a hummingbird feeder hanging in front of a very large window. I learned that the bait is just sugar water, so maybe honey can be substituted? Their feeder was like the ones shown on this site [looky here].   I have a few hummingbirds visit the lemon trees in my back yard but they are gone in seconds, with a feeder they visit and stay for some time…which allowed me to take many photos.

I wanted photos of the birds in flight not sitting at the feeeder.  I was about 5-6ft away.  other parameters for my images: a camera that shoots up to 9 frames a second and good auto focus (lens dependent)—I tried manual focus but their speed just was too much for me. I shot quite a few at high shutter speeds to attempt to freeze the birds…about 1/6400 of a second, but I shot some at 1/60 to get the wing motion, but those lower speeds were very, very blurry. In my [photoset on flickr]. the shots with motion blur are at 1/800 sec! …with wings that flap at up to 50 cycles per second, it takes fast shutterspeeds to freeze motion. All shots are hand held, but my D3s has very good high ISO capability. I'm sure a tripod mounted camera would have allowed sharper photos.

You are correct. Honey would be bad. I would use some bright flowers if you're really interested.
Google search for "flowers that attract hummingbirds".

Bob

p.s. And by the way, I'm not an expert, I just live in the country surrounded by flowering plants and have butterflies and hummingbirds everywhere.

No, it's not as elegant or as artistic, but what the heck.  Small town Arkansas is quite clever . . . Eureka Springs.

Hi all Audio Circle members.
Last Saturday it was cloudy, foggy and boring...
So, I took out my Nikon D-200 and did a few clicks
from the window of my listening room on the 4th floor of our house.
Out of half of a dozen shoot, this is the best one and the one I like the most.
Nothing extrodinary, but that picture has a special mood, don't you think so?
