I'm a fan of using off the shelf low power servers. I have a generic Dell PowerEdge T110 II with 32GB of RAM and run FreeNAS with ZFS filesystem. I believe i paid $200 for the unit. Added a 20GB Intel SSD and three 6TB drives.

Super stable for years now.

This is similar to what I do, although since I'm purely a Linux person I just use native NFS  to serve out the file systems.  I would love to switch to bcachefs once it matures as it supports erasure codes; it seems under active development.  ZFS has been wonderful though!

I would consider btrfs but it seems eternally immature...

So you can store the Terabytes of music you stole over the years. Back in the day, you go to a show and you hand them a CD you want to hear and they would "copy" it to their hard drive to play. Still don't get why many audiophiles think it's ok to do this. At least the streaming services pay something (very little) to the musicians.
