If this is too much off topic you can disregard the suggestion, but since you mentioned guitar I would also recommend the Power Tab Editor and the Power Tab Archive (PTA) for your consideration. I've been downloading and submitting Power Tabs to the Archive probably since 2002. I know you said you don't require MIDI playback or the ability to transcribe, but Power Tab has been very useful for keeping a record (in standard notation as well as tablature) of the stuff I've been transcribing and working on. You can download 'completed' Power Tabs from various sites on the web, but the cool thing about the PTA is that the tabs need to be approved by the moderators before they can be submitted there.
And while the Power Tab Editor may not be the very best in this kind of software--I'm not the very best guitar player either--it's certainly worth the price of admission at least, which is FREE. We like that.
