Title: VR4 GenII upgrades
Post by: Pars on 7 Jul 2018, 10:54 pm
Hi all,
I've owned a pair of these since around 2000 or so. I've recently noticed they seem a bit bright to me with somewhat lacking bass response. At their age, I would think that any electrolytic caps in the crossovers would be in need of replacement (not sure if there are any used)?

Any other upgrades that would be recommended? I've always really liked these speakers, but wouldn't mind some soft dome tweeters or upgraded drivers, etc.

I had noticed a thread regarding a VR44 passive upgrade as well. Is VSA still offering this?

Thanks for any thoughts!

We are still upgrading older VR-4's to the VR-44.  Give me a call and we can discuss options.

I have an old pair of vr5 hse.  I have removed the crossovers and tested the banks of electrolytic capacitors.  They all tested fine, YMMV.  Might check the solder joints at all points as I found a few that were not up to my standards, and I believe it did effect the sound.  a couple of resistors were laso out of spec.....
