GK-1 Problem

Help!
I've lost the right hand channel of my GK-1.  I've taken a few measurements and have come to the (tentative) conclusion that T1 and/or T2 has gone to the pictures - would anyone care to confirm my diagnosis or suggest any further measurements I could take?

Voltage offset of SS stage is approx -14V
Base of T1 is also at about -14V with respect to ground.

I have no concrete idea as to why the problem arose, all that I can comment on is that we had some heavy storms recently that may have caused the damage despite the hifi kit being unplugged from the wall.

Hi David,

This is unusual, and I'm sorry to hear of it, but yes, somehow the SS section of the GK1 is damaged.

T1/T2 and T3 will indeed need replacement.

Does LED1 light up?  If not, you should check T4 is serviceable as well.

Check the Zeners have 14.2-15V across them, and T5 and T6 have 0.6 volt between base and emitter.

Once you have done these checks, we will have more idea, then you might PM me for more diagnosis.

Cheers,

Hugh
