Hickok 752a tube tester
« on: 28 Mar 2009, 06:05 pm »
friend justed loaned me this tester to measure my tubes before sale/trade.
Can't find the setting for 6sl7's?
Am I being totally stupid?
Testing my 6sn7's just fine as the roll chart and additional supplements include the sn not the sl.
Help?

On my TV-7D/U and my Hickock 600A the settings are as follows, should be pretty similar for you.

6.3 Volts for the heater filaments
              Selectors   Bias  Shunt
Triode 1 - HY45062    0        0
Triode 2 - HY12035    0        0

The only difference is the bias setting of 23 for the 6SN7. Also mine has a "Range" setting that I am guessing refers to the "Multiplier" setting on yours, both tubes are the same on mine.  Minimum good for the SL7 is 32 and 50 for the SN7. This is based on a scale of 0-120.  On yours it is likely in micromhos so just fudge a bit by multiplying the scale by .384 to get a close approximation of what minimum good is (32 on a scale of 0-120 is 38.4% of full scale).

Get what I'm saying?  The only differences are the bias and minimum good reading so take the settings on the roll chart for an SN7 and apply them to the SL7 with the bias set at 0, multiplier setting will be the same.

DON'T forget to check for shorts FIRST, then gM, then gas!

Hope this helps.
