How far from a side wall and how far from a rear wall is it suggested to place the GR Research open baffle subs?  Could I ask for both suggested and also absolute minimum?

1-3 feet is fine for side walls. If you only have 1, you can lay it on it's side in the middle of the room without issue.
Minimum for the rear wall is 3 feet, with the 5-6+ feet being the ideal if you can.
