Title: mac mini HDMI out to Holo Audio Spring DAC
Post by: dcktr on 9 Dec 2017, 05:38 am
Hello,
I will be getting a Holo Audio Spring DAC in the very near future. Currently I am using USB output from my mid 2011 mini via USB to my W4S DAC.
The Holo Spring has HDMI input. I run the mini headless via team viewer, so my HDMI input is open. According to the manufacturer, the Holo Spring has best results via HDMi.
Does the mini output the same audio via HDMI as it does from HDMI?
Thanks
Ron

Do you mean "Does the mini output the same audio via HDMI as it does from USB?"?

No it won't work. The HDMI cable is used for I2S LVDS over HDMI. Completely different than normal HDMI. They just use the same cable.

Should have done more research before I asked the question. I would need a usb to I2s converter
Thanks

Using the i2S connection does kick things up a few notches.
