Nakamichi 1000 II cassette deck
« on: 29 May 2010, 05:41 pm »
I have had this deck for 20+ years and it makes made great music.  I set it aside a few years ago when it would jump to "stop" right after I hit "play".  Both of my 1000s had the same problem eventually.

Faceplate is good, some pitting on a few pieces of metal on the rear (shown in photo), innards are pretty dusty (it was rack-mounted a long time), and last night when I was taking the photos I turned it on (meters lit up), and just for grins I hit "play" and it WORKED.  Tape counter went from 0  to 99, meters reacted, but after awhile it developed a high-pitch squeal, so I shut it off.  Includes copies of about 2/3rds of a service manual.

The case is fair to poor condition with slight mildew from being stored separately, and has damage to two corners.  Missing feet and original mounting screws.

Sold as-is for repair, obviously.

$100 plus shipping; pick up or delivery in STL, Jeff City or central MO possible.

SOMEWHERE around here I have the wired remote for it and I'll post that for sale when it surfaces.  Interested?

Bump.  I recently powered it up and, wonder of wonders, the transport WORKED!
But I wouldn't plan on it staying that way.     It hadn't worked for a long time when I put it away, so it'll need  work. Comes with wired remote.

Offers?

I had a Nak 700 (the 1000 was the hand built version) back in the 70's, cool to see yours.

I must say that it was the only item that I sold used and made money of it.anything else was loss in my whole life.
Any way It was a nice memory when I saw the picture of yours and I had it before the gold one.
I would say keep it.It is classic :thumb:
Can you think if any one make such a player today, how much it would cost?

Last ditch effort: I contacted eslabs to ask about the deck and refurbishment. Willy Hermann doesn't do it any more. Haven't called Sound Smith yet.

I would say, do not waste your time. For you or any one with NAKAMICHI this is the place you want to contact.
www.classicaudio.com
The guy has his own radio station and was the original NAKAMICHI repair man and when they closed,he bought all the test eqipment and material that can fix the Nakamichi for himself.
