Omnia A300 vs ST-10 Power
« on: 18 Nov 2022, 12:33 am »
Both of the above amps are listed at 150w/ch into 8ohms yet it seems to me that my A300 is powering my 8ohm speakers with more authority than I remember the ST-10 doing. Is it just that my memory is off, or is the A300 more powerful?

I realize it's not a strictly apples to apples comparison. I had paired ST-10 to a tube preamp and separate DAC while the A300 is an all-in-one integrated amp. However, I ended up selling the ST-10 because it wasn't delivering enough power to my low sensitivity (83.5dB) speakers. The A300 is doing a reasonably decent job of powering them now. I still wish the A300 was 200+w/ch, but I can live with it.

Any chance Nuprime will combine the wonderful Evolution STA amp with a preamp + DAC section to create a stunning all-in-one integrated amp?  :thumb:

I guess that you have a relatively efficient speaker.
The power ratings for A300 and ST-10 are similar (150W@8ohm). ST-10 has more current output but less power at 4 ohms (limited by its linear power supply) at 150W versus A300 200W@4ohm.  A300, on the other hand, will have difficulty driving current hungry speakers.
