Remote Control on/off inside cabinet?
« on: 13 Aug 2016, 05:14 pm »
The aquarium pump for my TransFi tonearm will be inside a cabinet in an adjoining room to keep the listening room quiet.  I'd like to rig up a remote that I can operate from my listening room to turn it off an on without opening the cabinet door.  It's only about 10 feet, but it's obviously not line-of-sight.  Ideally the remote would have an LED or some sort of indicator to indicate whether the switch was on or off.

I saw something that uses ZNET, but it needs line of sight.

I could rig up an IR repeater, but I'd rather not, so RF would be preferred.

Any recommendations?

Thanks in advance!

I have been using X-10 power line remote controls for decades.
I must have more than a dozen that I got from Radio Shack.

I received the remote switch and it works great--turns the pump on/off standing in front of the turntable with the pump about 10' away inside a cabinet.  While it has an LED on the remote, it only indicates when the button is pushed--it would be nice if it indicated if the switch was on or off, as I can't hear the pump.  Hopefully it will be obvious as the tonearm bearing will float when the pump is on.
