"Possessor: Uncut" is for dedicated sci-fi horror fans only. Brandon Cronenberg is horror master David Cronenberg's son and "Possessor:Uncut" doesn't miss a beat. The film is a sci-fi puzzle blended into an extreme psychological thriller. Tasya Vos (Andrea Riseborough) is an elite assassin who takes over an innocent persons mind and body. The "possessed" body then commits murder, Tasya is then pulled back into her own body after she also kills her "host." But Tasya has been doing this for far too long and is having identity issues. The gore and blood (lots of it) is shocking to see.

"Possessor: Uncut" appeared on my radar because of the spiderweb of links connecting the director and actor Andrea Riseborough to other high profile projects. Andrea Riseborough is a chameleon, I have seen her in other films but never recognize her. She has been in "Birdman" starring Michael Keaton, "Oblivion" starring Tom Cruise, "Amsterdam", "The Electrical Life of Louis Wain", and many more films. Currently she is nominated for the Best Actress Academy Award for her performance in “To Leslie”, but not without plenty of controversy about the grass roots campaign to put her on the list. The NY Times has an in depth article.

Brandon Cronenberg's current film, now playing in theaters, is "Infinity Pool" is another horror film that barely escaped getting an "X" rating.

"Infinity Pool" stars two A-List actors: Alexander Skarsgård and Mia Goth. Skarsgård has played a vampire in "True Blood", a tech entrepreneur in "Succession" and a bloodthirsty viking in Robert Eggers's "The Northman."
Mia Goth is the heroine in Ti West's excellent "X" and "Pearl" and will star in "MaXXXine" the 3rd film in his trilogy.

"Possessor: Uncut" reminded me of "Titane," another challenging psychological body horror film that had its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival on  July 13, 2021, where writer/director Julia Ducournau became the second female director to win the Palme d'Or, the festival's top award, as well as the first female filmmaker to win solo. It received critical acclaim and was selected as the French entry for the Best International Feature Film at the 94th Academy Awards, but did not make the shortlist.

Loved Possessor. Andrea Riseborough is one of the most underrated actors in Hollywood, imo. Tremendous range, and just absolutely kills it here.
