Omega Super 7 vs Spendor 3/5
« on: 13 Feb 2022, 11:01 pm »
Hi guys,

I'm currently looking for a speaker setup for a small 11x13' room. I personally prefer speakers that are a bit warmer in nature and have great midrange clarity and tonality. Has anyone ever compared any of the Spendor Classic line to the Super 7 MK2s? Part of my hesitation on the Spendors is their relatively low sensitivity at 85dbs compared to the Omegas. I have a buddy who can build me a 6BX7 amp that can output 15W but for the Spendors I would need at least a 100W Parasound to make use of them. I know Spendors like most BBC brands have an amazing liquid, natural nature of the midrange. Do the Super 7s sound similar? Thanks for any help.

Budget is about $2k - I already have a DAC so half speaker and half amp is probably where I'd split my budget.

Are you sure on the power requirements for the Spendors?
In a small room/nearfield I would have no problem with 15 watts.

Yeah Spendor 3/5 is 85db. To get to 99-101 (way over my listening level but good to have the headroom) I need at least 100. I could probably get away with 50 but that would only allow for low level listening (which is my preference but my scared for headroom).
