Favorite song /artist to showcase Omega's
« on: 12 Mar 2020, 03:57 am »
Not sure if this topic is ok in this section or not, but what is your favorite music to really showcase your system? I listen to lots of vocal jazz, both old and new (ok... Mostly old... Lol) from Mel Torme and Frank to Diana and Holly Cole. But some songs are a magic combination of well written, well performed AND well produced, here are a few interesting pieces:

1. Arms of a woman, Amos Lee
2. Don't worry about me, Frances
3. Here but I'm gone, Vanessa Fernandez
4. I'll be your woman, St. Paul and the broken bones

Anyway, just some interesting stuff, anyone else like to share?

Good one, I will add her to the list. I got to see her live last year at the Victoria Jazz festival, what a performance!

Another good one to show people that there is bass output from the Omega's is "What do you think they will say about me" by Aces.

Great Amos Lee tune...

I’ll add
Guide me back home (live) - City and Color (whole album very well recorded live)
These Bones - Fairfield Four (A Cappella that goes deep and give you goose bumps)
Misty - Bob Brookmeyer
Jardin d’hiver - Stacey Kent

If showing off vocal is what you wish to do ...

Elton John ... 'Sorry Seems to Be the Hardest Word' - LP - Elton John 'Live in Australia with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra'
Joan Baez ... 'Never Dreamed You'd Leave In Summer' - LP - "Diamonds and Rust'
Justin Hayward ... 'Forever Autumn' - CD - 'Spirits Live'

Awesome suggestions, thanks for the replies! Never think to play Elton but then I look thri his music and realize all the good music he made, same with Joan Baez.

Keep the ideas coming, it's fun to be reminded of old gems and even more fun to be exposed to music one might never hear.

Anything by Eva Cassidy. Same goes for Tracy Chapman. Both of them sound amazing on my system with Super 3 XRS speakers.
If I had to choose one desert island album/cd it would be Eva Cassidy's Nightbird, a double cd set from a live concert at the Blues Alley jazz club on January 3, 1996. Eva had the voice of an angel. Unfortunately she died from melanoma at the age of 33, on November 2, 1996. I cannot recommend the music she left behind highly enough.

Great call, I have just put on Nightbird on! Last night I listened to some Coltrane and Miles Davis and there is something special about that music played through my SET and the 3i.

So, I am facing 24 day self quarantine and now, more than ever, I am looking for suggestions on what new-to-me music every is enjoying. I have speb the morning listening to Jack Johnson because, during this weird time, everyone needs some laid back music to help destress.

Bill Evans is great and also maybe a little later in the day some Ben Webster or a little Nat King Cole. Thad Jones, Sonny Clark, Jackie Mclean and Horace Parlan.

The Kerry Dancer with Johnny Griffin Quartet.

Only vocals on 1 song which I read to be rare in itself, but Clifford Jordan "Live at Ethells".  You can hear the glassware clinking in the background as well as a squeaky hi-hat stand.  Al Lee "Aint Playing the Game" is a great one for acoustic guitar.  Pretty sure both are Maple Shade productions I think so the recordings are top notch.

Tarja Turunen's Naiad

Such a wonderful, serene vocal.

MUTEMATH: Hit Parade
Lux Prima: Drown
Mr. Little Jeans: Back to the Start
Phantogram: You Don't Get Me High Anymore
Widowspeak: All Yours
A Perfect Circle: The Package
The Clash: London Calling
Eels: I Like Birds
Porno for Pyros: Pets
Charizma: Methods
Fleetwood Mac: Never Going Back Again

Admittedly, I like these songs and how they were produced so I imagine I would like them with any speakers. That being said, I do think they represent songs that either have lots of delicious "stuff" to hear in the midrange, have fun dynamics that play well with Omegas or have an intimate quality that I think also plays well with these speakers.
