Dog, not far removed from a wolf.  Cool shot and crop!  :thumb:

Thanks! And that's not a crop! :) 100% of the picture out of the camera.

ETA: D'oh. Something happened to the flickr link. Will fix it soon.  :duh:

It's a deliberate crop/composition/choice in the viewfinder.  Either way it's very powerful image.   :thumb:

Thank you! I really love this picture and am glad somebody else sees it too. :)

ETA: Fixed the link for the picture in my earlier post.

You guys post some amazing shots! Can I play? I'm a total noob to digital photography. Had a good Nikon setup in the days before auto exposure. When that was stolen ~20 years ago I lost interest. Never even used a phone camera much.

In my frequent walks at the local state park I've been running into some interesting characters so on Monday I bought a Panasonic lumix fc-70 ($250). Got some pretty good results 'considering' (hand held, extreme telephoto, low light). So yesterday I dragged my monster tripod out (bought decades ago for big astronomy binoculars).

Mama Owl was kind enough to pose. Here's the scene at wide angle. She's right in the middle.

At full optical zoom (60x)

And all the way in

I'm pretty pleased with the results so far (for an inexpensive camera). Mama has a nest nearby, will post some pics of Baby Owl when I get some better ones.

Nice shot, Alan.  You are most welcome to play in the photo sandbox.  :thumb:

Alan: Welcome, it's nice to have another member posting photos. Those owl shots are a hoot! Can't wait to see the babies.
Guy13: Fascinating Chinese woman. Did you get other portraits?
Maritan: Dog/Wolf photo... love the golden, yellow eye contrasted against the black. Your pet? Camera?
PeteG: Dramatic landscapes and colors as usual.

Here's a couple more from my recent "Backyard Bird" collection.

Hi bside123.
Here another picture I took, but that was 20 years ago when my wife and I were engaged and going on a train trip from Saigon to Hanoi. The trip lasted 42 hours and on the way, the train killed two Vietnamese.
The old lady was begging at the train station in the center of Vietnam.

Hi all,
I took this picture of my sister in law's restaurant.
As you can see the kitchen is super clean,
as per Vietnamese standard.
Would you eat there ?
My wife does, not me...

Crabs fiest ! That 5 course meal is not for the customers,
but only for the family on special events.

Yup, my Border Collie. She's actually a red haired dog and I processed it to give the picture an edge. Camera used was an Olympus OM-D E-M1.

Alan, welcome and please continue posting pictures. BSide - nice bird pictures. I find birds very challenging and rewarding to photograph.

Hi all.
It's a money tree, well, that how I call it,
but in reality it's just paper strips attached to the branches.
The picture was taken in the city of Dalat which is a 6 hours drive
in the mountains
from Saigon (Ho Chi Minh City).

Right in front of my house, you can see the spaghetti junction
(Telephone mess-up lines) with the (Very safe) bamboo ladders.

We had and indoor/outdoor Art and Music Benefit Event at our café yesterday afternoon. Here's a couple of snaps taken with a Fujifilm X100, 23mm (35 mm effective).

Tomorrow I'm off to Turkey and Europe. Let's see what photo trouble I can get myself into!

Well...I had typed that, but then deleted the word "upright".
Some of us around here could get pretty juvenile with a pretty girl and the word "upright".

I arrived back in Istanbul today at early evening. Strolling down to the Bosphorus, I enjoyed seeing the sunset, only to turn around and witness the moonrise over a pair of minarets.
