Nice shot, Bob!  I really like the composition and framing.  The kite actually looks like it is back lit, is it?

Just by the sunset Jake.
That was shot in Alabama a couple years ago in a rental we had for the week.
Dauphin Island in fact.  :thumb:

Sometimes the casual shots are the good ones too.

Here is a fun shot from my traveling days back in the mid 90's.  Me on the right.

I had been teaching English in Taiwan, and 2 friends and I headed out for some South East Asian mountain biking.  This shot is waiting for the ferry to Koh Samui after a long bus ride down from Bangkok.

We later went to India and rode over the Rohtang Pass, which was a REAL grind.  Impossible to be ready for the Himalaya!

I currently have a brush cut, and have since 1997, so this pic always gets a huge laugh these days...

....

Hey!

Look like you had a good time in Thailand. I've heard that Ko Samui is beautiful, I've never been there and I came from Thailand.  Anyway, I remembered I went to Phuket way back than, some 30 years ago when it was pretty much empty and pristine compare to today's. It was fun on fine white sand.

Anyway, talking about Thailand. I recently gone through one of my negative box and found this...

"The Bridge Over The River Kwai" Thailand 2006. by setpower1, on Flickr

The Bridge Over The River Kwai.  I took this back in 2006 while I was visiting my cousin there. Somehow I've never print this. I actually spent a few years of my childhood in that town not far from that bridge.

Take care,
Buddy :thumb:

BobinSTL, SET Man, gnuyork:

Nice monochrome images: The kite is lyrical. The bridge in Thailand is classic B&W. The swirl is dramatic.

It's very interesting how a monochromatic image conveys a whole different feeling than a color one.

Interesting set of shots. We could take the bridge, and put it over the top of the sky swirl, then add in the kite.

Here is a slightly different comp from the same spot in color:

Just took this picture on my lunch walk under the Brooklyn bridge. Looks like an album cover that I vaguely remember.

We are helping to care for an old family friend who is now in hospice. This image somehow reminded me of these lyrics:

The End   by Jim Morrison and The Doors

"This is the end
Beautiful friend
This is the end
My only friend, the end

Of our elaborate plans, the end
Of everything that stands, the end
No safety or surprise, the end
I'll never look into your eyes... again

Can you picture what will be
So limitless and free
Desperately in need... of some... stranger's hand
In a desperate land."

Taken with the Fujifilm X100

BTW, he is not morbid or particularly scared or suffering. He is actually pretty lit up about the sum total of his life's experience.
You can see that intensity in his eyes.

B side. I can see that in his eyes and I am glad. You captured that very well.

Hey!

Nobody last forever. It is a cycle of life. Yes, he seems to be taking it in stride of which is a good thing.

Take care,

Hey!

Believe it or not it was on local TV news. Nobody knows how that piano ended up there and right side up.

Don't know if the city removed it already. If I had time I will go down there and see.

Take care,
Buddy :thumb:

I am still very much enjoying as well as I'm on the prowl with my newly acquired Fuji X100. On the street in or in a restaurant... nobody's safe.

Here's a selection of one color and one b&w.  8)
