gfroman:

Wonderful pictures.  I just purchased a Nikon D600 and took advantage of the $700 rebate on the Nikon 24-85mm.  I was thinking about the 28-300mm lens and was curious where what focal length you tend to use this lens at the most.  The 24-85mm is significantly lighter than the 28-300 and might be just fine for a walk about lens.

I also really like the 14-24mm but will need to save my pennies for that lens.

Regards,

Randy

Hi all Audio Circle members,
amateur, semi-professional and professional photographers or
simply people that like photography.
My first post here, let's see what a Canadian in Vietnam selling professional equipment can do with a humble Nikon D-200 (17-55mm lens.)
This is experimentation on lighting.

Enjoy...

Hi gfroman and all Audio Circle members.
It's when I see a nice picture like yours,
that I must say that you don't need to have an expensive camera
to make nice pictures.
I also have a Nikon D-200 (18-55mm lens) I also have a Mamiya 645E (Film)
I have owned in the past several different make and type of cameras, like Rollei 6X6,
two (02) Cambo 4X5, Fuji 6X7, Mamiya RB67 and some more...
You can do nice pictures with a DSLR if you compose correctly, if your exposure is correct, if you wait for the right moment and light...
Here in Vietnam with my wife's business, we are exclusive distributor/importer for Phase One (Denmark) those camera can run easily in the 35,000 USD range.
However, I would never own such a camera, because I am not a professional and I don't take enough pictures to justify spending that much money a something I will probably use only once a month.

Thanks, Stirman!
When I visited the site there were about 300 tourists walking all over the place - not a good photo!
I hiked around to the south and did a bit of rock climbing to get to this vantage point.
Waiting for the sun to set and the tourists to leave, a big thunder storm came through, clearing out all of the people.
Got a few shots off before the sun set behind some clouds.
Hiked back to the car in the dark with my headlamp.

Here is a shot of me (taken by my wife) as we waited on the cliff to get this shot.
Hard to tell but my foot is at the edge of the cliff.

gfroman,

I used to live in Moab for years. Great shot. A very different view of Delicate.  :thumb:

Thanks for the story, you had better luck in that spot than I did! I've been in the same spot trying to get a similar composition more than once. Every time, too crowded (this was before digital and Photoshop.) I swore I'd have to come back in the dead of winter to get a respite from the crowds there. You're a very good photgrapher, great work!
