Jon L:

I have been a Nikon guy for over 30 years but I must say that I am pretty impressed with the Canon EOS REBEL T2i (550D) camera that you are shooting with.  I looked up the feature set on this camera and for the price that B&H is charging(I know that the 600D is also out) it looks to be a great price for this Canon.

BTW, once again you have proven that it is far more important who is behind the camera than the camera itself.  Great shots!! :thumb:

Regards,

Randy

Thanks for the kind words, which helps with my pain waiting for that elusive Canon 5D MkIII  :o

Love your bird pic from the previous page, JonL.  I think it's good enough to be on an album cover.

Last night there was supposed to be a spectacular meteor shower over North America, so a buddy and I headed to an abandoned airport runway to shoot over the wreckage of some old DC3s.  These images were supposed to frame the meteors in the sky.

Three hours freezing our asses off, and not one meteor did we see.  Made for a long day at work today. :duh:

ISO 400, 30 seconds, roughly 5.6.  Old 24, 35, and 50mm MF lenses to avoid any zoom lens flare. Moonlight gives the planes that erie half-daylight feel.

Edit:  When we got tired of waiting for something to happen we broke out a portable floodlight and started "painting"

Awesome subject Bob :thumb:

Hey, we need to get together and give the old DC-3 some Lost America treatment (once it gets warmer).

That link has been posted before but it's been a while and I'm not sure if you remember it. What this guy does (and teaches...like you) is completely unique.

This link gives you a good idea of how he is doing it....

Going through his compositions and reading what he does is pretty fascinating if you are into photography.

Once we do up your DC-3, there are literally dozens and dozens of shoot locations along old Route 66. Plus, I know of a junkyard or two that would make for a fine shoot location. In fact, one of them has a power plant that would be in the backdrop. That could make one heck of a composition (junk cars in the foreground, smoke stacks, lights and such in the background).

I'll need to pick up some gels. Between the two of us we should have plenty of flashes and flashlights. Who knows, maybe [the other] Bob and Ryan would want to join in.

And let's use FILM!   :thumb:

I dragged along some film cameras the other night, but with no "action" I didn't bother to use more than the two digital cameras.  Somehow I think film does a better job at long exposures.  Maybe it's my imagination, but I think it makes for a smoother images.

As an Emmy Award-winning film maker once told me "Pixels don't sing like silver!"

Sweet!  I consider the 50mm f2.5 the secret weapon in Canon lens line, the sharpest 50mm lens Canon makes, including the 50L  :thumb:
