Leonard Nimoy passed away at 83 in his home. He had been fighting COPD for the last two years, even though he had quit smoking thirty years ago.
He lived long and prospered, good bye Spock.

The end of an era. A true icon in the world of acting and sci-fi, he will be missed.
-
We are all getting old!
Live Long and Prosper, while you can.
-
Sadly he's gone to explore the universe & beyond. Fare well Sir. RIP
-
Damn. I was listening to his voice just this morning on Symphonic Star Trek on Telarc. :(
-
May he rest in eternal peace, looks like a Star Trek marathon is in order.

A rare celebrity, I'm afraid - Nimoy was a very talented, brilliant, and accomplished man, yet modest and unassuming. A real role model, and lord knows we need more of them in the public eye.
-
I don't see anyone but Nimoy as Spock. He will be forever etched in our collective media memory for that role IMO. RIP

+1 on that.
-
For sure the real Spock.
I recall him well for some voice overs he did in the early 80's for some weekly sci fi show I used to watch.
-
Very sad news
-
Good thing for digital he lives on forever.
Probably my favorite Star Trek movie is, "The Voyage Home".
Followed by, " The Wrath of Khan ".
-
Dammit Jim, Spock's dead. Truly the loss of an icon.
-
Sad news. I guess I expected him to live forever! RIP, Mr. Nimoy.
-
-
He really made that role his own - thank you for the memories, Mr. Nimoy.
-
Where is the Genesis planet when you need it.
"Change is the essential process of all existence"

Probably just an icon in the world of sci-fi. Wasn't much of an actor.

His last Tweet:

A life is like a garden. Perfect moments can be had, but not preserved, except in memory. LLAP

900 years and one rebirth

While everyone remembers Spock, I liked his narration on the 70's tv series "In Search of...." which was one of the coolest shows ever for a 10 year old kid. 8)

I remember that well...I used to get so excited when the intro came on.
-
I remember "in search of" airborn
-
The needs of the many out weighs the needs of the one.
-
I'm sure sad to here this, he was an icon.
-
How did such a B-list (C or D-list, actually) actor become such an icon?
-

Disagree. Typecasting not his fault.
-
He had an excellent role on Fringe as Dr. William Bell and his reprise of Spock in Star Trek (2009) was quite good.
I think that even though he is an icon, his body of work and the impact he had on multiple generations of young people that went on have careers as engineers, scientists and astronauts defines his legacy.

You honestly think that he and the crew of the Starship Enterprise had a significant bearing on the careers of young people in the US?
That's a reach. Anyone geeky enough to have found some kind of connection in that campy show was already well on their way to becoming a cubicle dweller.

I think maybe it's time to remove this guy from the thread. This is getting ridiculous.
-
Agreed. A much beloved actor has passed. If you didn't like the guy surely you can find a better place to complain about his acting than in a eulogy thread. :nono:

From what I understand, he was a great guy.

One of the great in any role, the greatest in StarTrek.

He will live forever, I never suppose he would die.
Willian Shatner must be devastated.
RIP

Wow, what an interesting video lol. I'm not going to be able to get that song out of my head now. Spock sure had good taste in ladies :thumb:

I'll miss him.

Maybe you are from a younger generation and fail to realize the impact Gene Roddenberry's vision had on many young people of the time.
It was a time of many injustices and turmoil in the world. Star Trek was the first TV show to address these issues of racial inequality, war, greed, environmental devastation, and humans bringing themselves to the brink of extinction through their own selfish acts.
Gene had a vision of a time where we got through all the bad stuff and pulled back from the brink of extinction to pursue a better way of life by all working together to make a better world for all. He showed us through his stories our own petty faults and shortcomings.
He inspired generations of scientists and people that believe we can build a better world for all and are actively doing so.
How many TV shows can claim the same ?
Mr. Nimoy understood this and was always very grateful to be a part of it. He was a very down to earth and humble individual,
and always carried himself with respect to the public that made him an icon.
Not like some of the headline grabbing idiots that pervade our society today.
Maybe you don't get it so you mock it...I understand that. But I think you picked the wrong thread to express your distaste of
Mr. Nimoy and the show.

Yes. Thanks Greg.

Naw, plenty of young people are into Trek and know Nimoy, this poster is just being rude.
