One doesn't need to speak the language to be moved by this Russian folk song, "Under a Willow" (a conversation a dying, young cossack has with a raven that cawed from the canopy of a willow with intent to eat his flesh (cheerful, eh?)).
Pelageya is joined by Elmira Kalimullina, Maria Goya and Anri Gogniashvili - quite the quartet (Russian, Crimean, Ukrainian and Georgian).

It's funny how voices hit different people. I enjoy Pelageya or Elmira, by themselves, but I tire fairly quickly of sopranos, like Maria. On the other hand, her contribution to this performance cannot be overstated. The tenor's voice kind of disappears, but is still a component of the ideal recipe. It's been a couple of years since the last time I heard this. I've probably played it a couple dozen times today - it gets me every time.

BTW, I love YouTube; it's flippin' awesome.

...and now for something completely different. Here are two more contestants from the Russian incarnation of The Voice. The previous video featured one of the judges, Pelageya, with three of her favorite contestants. Anyway, this is the Scorpions' ballad, 'Still Loving You', sung by a pair of impressive vocalists, who just so happened to sing this for their blind auditions.

Aaron T-Bone Walker with a pretty good pick-up band: Dizzy Gillespie, Clark Terry, trumpet; Zoot Sims, James Moody, tenor sax; Teddy Wilson, piano; Bob Cranshaw, acoustic double bass; Louie Bellson, drums.

Been awhile since I've checked in. Looking forward to the (expected) great tunes y'all have posted.
But, I ran across this one and couldn't help but to pass it along.

... Oh... turn it up a bit.

Nice stereo separation for Youtube. Great song too.
I'm kinda stuck on this one. I won't say how many times I've listened in the past week since I discovered it.

Last one....
This could be my anthem. The last song of the night. Curtains closing. Lights down, eyes closed.
Add just a hint of subwoofer.
