The last few months we have been busy working with our neighbor David Palka the master machinist on new metal work for the drivers.
Here you can see the new trim rings for the 10" driver with the DA logo laser engraved, as well as the mew Eton tweeter which has a smaller diameter but heavier gauge flange, neodymium magnet structure and other improvements. David designed a mounting ring for the new tweeter so that we can retrofit it as an upgrade in older cabinets and we also use the flange in the dual-tweeter systems because of the offset.
Last is the new midrange trim ring, like the woofer ring this secures the driver with an even pressure which reduces distortion. This was a bit trick to design but the end result is worth it!! The clarity of this system is goosebump inducing.

tomorrow we finish loading the set of Apollo which we will show in the room we share with Modwright and WyWires. This will be fun with two great rooms and great partners!!!!!
btw the ONLY other show we will do this year is CAF. I did consider the SanFransisco show but I am done with summertime shows, life is short and summers are meant for other things than work.

Will these modifications require shipment of entire speaker back to the factory?

unfortunately yes. both the tweeter and midrange require woodworking and crossover modifications. Depending on how old your Athenas are there may be a number of other upgrades that taken together make it very worthwhile to ship. FYI, we are backlogged in upgrades and several months out at this time.
thanks,
Lou

Absolutely gorgeous and I know they will sound out of this world.
Looking forward to receiving mine.

My Athena's are less than a year old. I took delivery of them May 24, 2017 and had the Duelund upgrade crossover mod included. Your new tweeter and midrange ring of course, was not available at the time.
Eventually I'll probably upgrade them, but I'm in no rush, as to my ears they are excellent as is.

Lou:
Thanks for sharing these pics and plans. I am sure these latest refinements to your Apollo series take extraordinary speaker systems to levels of performance that few systems (of any price) can match. The wood work on the speakers you will show in Chicago is stunning. Between the looks and the sounds this is going to be one exciting weekend for music lovers! Wish I could join you but will have to make the drive to CAF instead to hear these wonderful creations and visit with you again. Good luck with the final prep and enjoy!
