There's never been a better time to get into audio (if you have access to the internet and can cut through the BS).  Class D amps are making quality sound from small, inexpensive, efficient boxes a reality.  And digital can be had on the cheap, as easy as a laptop, a $20/month subscription to Tidal's 45 million CD quality songs, and a digital/analog converters starting at $100.

Of course you can spend more, but the price for admission to good sound has never been cheaper or easier.
