Deep Purple- Made in Japan tour or Live in Osaka
In the linear notes they mention a fan that was in such a state of ecstacy having never heard Hard Rock before, that he off'ed himself. Because he had experienced what could never be eclipsed.
Speculating IMO the song was either Highway Star, Child in Time or maybe it was Space Truckin'. These 3 songs give me a high but not to the extreme of offing myself. :smoke:

Jazz by Ken Burns.
This 10 episode, 19 hour documentary is like finishing a grad school course in jazz... and at times just as gruelling.  But in spite of it's length, it is mostly fascinating and very well done.  I highly recommend it to anyone that is a fan of jazz or those that would like to learn what it's about.
Here is a clip from it.  This may be one of the earliest recordings of improvization by perhaps the most influential artist ever from the western hemisphere.   https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WIE6U6Lrtrc&list=PLNqT8cJpBPRZSKesJi8wMVEy80K3pQrzS

The Decline of Western Civilization.  Examines the LA punk rock scene during the 1979/80 period in all its grit, with live footage of a number of famous bands from that era.

Here's a documentary about an entire subgenre of progressive music.

Sometimes (originally) known as Rock in Opposition (shortened to RIO), now, more broadly known as avant-prog.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oVxon0Dd2Rg

Progressive Archives has this to say about the subgenre:

https://www.progarchives.com/subgenre.asp?style=36

Avant-prog is generally considered to be more extreme and 'difficult' than other forms of progressive rock, though these terms are naturally subjective and open to interpretation. Common elements that may or may not be displayed by specific avant-prog artists include:

- Regular use of dissonance and atonality.
- Extremely complex and unpredictable song arrangements.
- Free or experimental improvisation.
- Fusion of disparate musical genres.
- Polyrhythms and highly complex time signatures.

Most avant-prog artists are highly unique and eclectic in sound and consequently tend to resist easy comparisons. However, Frank Zappa is often cited as a major influence on many avant-prog artists due to his early adoption of avant-garde and experimental attitudes within a predominantly rock/jazz context.

Ron Carter: Finding the Right Notes. Aired on PBS not long ago here, well worth the watch if you are a jazz fan.

A while back I watched the making of Pink Floyd DSOTM on Amazon. It pops in and out of availability on that platform. Pretty fascinating to see the in-studio footage of everything and some live clips from around that time.
On Amazon Prime here

There was one line in there that was pretty interesting and almost a little sad for any music fan in that David Gilmour said he is one of the only people who will never have the opportunity to sit down with a good set of headphones and listen to the entire album for a first time.

That is a very interesting statement.  I does indeed seem true that when you get too close, too familiar, you can often miss the forest for the trees.  It's hard to reclaim that initial feeling.
