I've been tinkering in the hobby since High School, following a long progression of audio gear. When I retired at the end of 2010, I pursued a computer audio front end. Only recently has it begun to show some promise. Most of the USB > SPDIF converters on the market are very disappointing, regardless of cost. Most computers are too noisy for use in audio.
