here's the story

i have the whole asl wave line setup with the crappy preamp, and i have a seperate headphone amp

i wanted to consolidate into one box (the melos) and get rid of my headphone amp and the wave stuffs.

i listen more critically to headphones since i'm in a dorm (yes i'm a headfi guy) but still enjoy listening to music on speakers when i can. and occasionaly i can crank it up so i'd like to from time to time.

so my plan was to collect around $400-350 for my asl/headphone amp and get the melos, and buy a budget poweramp to hold me over till after college.

so the powerwave sounds like a good idea?

Yes it really does because I thoroughly enjoy listening to my Senn 600s through the PWave. You'll have fun comparing the sound between the Melos and the PWave.

If you can DIY, here's two interesting options:

55w AKSA power amp... exceptional performance at a very reasonable price.  I have three of these and I'm very, very happy with them.  See:

Or, you could really build your own using an op-amp based design from Sigfried Linkwitz.  See: http://www.linkwitzlab.com/xo_eq.htm scroll down to "Power Amplifiers"
and:  http://www.linkwitzlab.com/images/graphics/3886amp.gif

Good luck,
