I have a Bosch front load washer, and you have to use a tiny amount of HE (High Efficiency) soap in it. We're talking a tablespoon or so. Any more, and the washer will sometimes add extra rinse cycles.
My current Bosch is an angled front loader and will periodically smell a bit. To fix this, I block the door open with a plastic funnel.
Smell is the only negative of front loaders. I don't know your model but our Bosch door stays open on its own (without a funnel or prop), and we usually leave it open between loads to prevent smells from developing. So far, so good because it works without issues or smells.
I've never actually operated it and have no idea how to do laundry but my wife (and my mom when she visits) have not experienced any problems. I need to learn how to do laundry someday because I'm embarassed for not knowing...
