What is this? It looks like stacked Quad ESLs.
-
I've heard of Double Advents, but never Double Quads?!
-
Yes it was big thing in the 70's - stacked Quads!
And they said our new TREX system would never fly !!!

A buddy of mine in high school had a mint 1963 Ford Thunderbird with an under dash 8 track player. He owned two 8 tracks: Led Zep II and Steppenwolf’s Greatest Hits. These would be played repeatedly on the way to and from high school dances. Hey, remember those? Guys on one side of the gymnasium with girls on the other? Your heart would pound in anticipation of asking the best looking girl for a twirl. The fear of rejection was always tempered by using this classic line after a girl said “no thanks”: “Don’t thank me, thank god that someone asked you to dance”.

Any older audiophile worth his/her salt owned a pair of these classics. I could only afford the Small Advents. I recall reading that they didn’t measure worth a darn, but they sounded right. They had the cool audiophile vibe.

The good'ol days weren't really that great
There are few things I prefer today over things in my youth in the '60s and '70s. It's not rose-colored glasses or selective nostalgia either.

Whoa, hang on there! I was making a joke specifically about the tuna jello salad! My mom made something similar from one of those molds exactly once and the whole family hated it. I thought I was being funny and that people would get it, as many on Audiocircle have a pretty good sense of humor. I grew up in the 60s and 70s and like most of us genuinely believe life was happier in those days. If my humor wasn’t obvious I apologize, but your reaction seems a bit intense for a fun thread.
-
Clearly I've been influenced and conditioned by the rising trend of confrontational threads. Knee-jerk response to what I perceived as crapping on a just-for-fun thread. My apologies. And yes, jello "salads" and "savories" are best left in the past...
Cheers,
Robert

No need to apologize Robert, but thanks for seeing that I was just being a smart *ss 8) These are stressful times and this kind of thread is good medicine!

I didn't get the reference either. I too almost commented.
If you had qouted the Jello mould post, it would have been obvious. It's hard to tell tone on the internet.

Before about 1960, home delivery of milk (and of bread) was common. Each truck would come by the house, 2 or 3 times a week.
Yesterday, I saw on the TV news , the a milk is going to restart milk deliveries.

My first real job. We gave out boxes and boxes of these catalogs. I recall loading those 5-pack resistors on the pegboard walls filled with components. Electronics as a hobby died in the eighties. I doubt most of the people working for TheSource these days even know what a resistor is. Sadly, all the local TV and Stereo repair shops have vanished. Tonnes of disposable junk has been produced since then.
Here's a link to all the Radio Shack catalogs. You can go through each one page by page. Great site.

Wow, A Dayton-Wright pre-amp! I had one of those back in the '70's (or was it the early '80's?). I think that was three pre-amps ago.
Did you have a pair of Mike Wright's electrostatic speakers too?

OK FIRST album ever purchased with your own money!

Good topic! The first album I bought with my own money (from my paper route) was probably “ Persuasive Percussion” by Enoch Light. I had heard it at a friend’s house, who was showing off his new stereo system, and the stereo effects blew me away. I must have been about 15-16 or so.

My cousin bought Metallica’s Master of Puppets on cassette after hearing it from a friend. We walked to Bradlee’s from his house to buy it. We got back to his house, opened it and listened to it, and I was instantly addicted. We high speed dubbed it for me while we walked back to Bradlee’s and I bought these, my first two tapes with my own money...

I was in 6th grade. Paper route money. We dubbed them for him after the first listen. I’m 44 years old now, and they’re still my favorite band. And they’re still among my favorite albums (along with Master of Puppets).

We hated that thing! My mother would use it on us weekly to maintain in between haircuts. It ripped out far more hair than it would actually cut. My father was the only one who could tell her she’s not using it on him. Smart man.
My father had a few lines he was famous for with us:
“I wish I could go to work right now so I could relax.”
Us: “What do you want for Father’s Day/Christmas/Birthday?”
Dad: “Peace and quiet.”
Every time.
We used to get pretty upset with those lines. Now having kids, I totally get it. I reminded him of that one time. He grinned and nodded, saying “the old man wasn’t as stupid as you thought he was, huh?” I don’t say it to my kids, but I think it all the time.

This is a confession: I’ve been using one of those since 1982 which was the last time I had a proper haircut in a shop. Mine is baby blue in colour. Other than changing the blades every now and then, it has saved me an enormous amount of money. It has just cost me my pride!

Fractured Fairy Tales. Even funnier now. Half the humor probably went over my head as a kid.
Here is Pinocchio.

Somehow, it’s on tv in our cafeteria most days during my lunch break. Huge tv, horrible station on every day. Except for that show and this one:

B&B is the last thing I would choose to bring back from the 80s, good grief. I was hoping for another season or two of Mike Judges Tales from the Road.
Cheers,
Robert
