I just heard of this.

Apparently there is a race on to develop $2,500 - $5,000 cars for the rapidly emerging middle class in India.

The maker is Tata which is a very successful manufacturer who recently bought Jaguar.

It is being officially unveiled on the 10th of this month and is supposed to look like this (600cc rear engine):

Too bad it would not fly in the U.S. They would almost be disposable, drive it for 6 years, get a new one. I bet they will sell a million of those in India.

Hey, I do dispose of my cars after 6 years.  We have three 2001 models with a total of 480,000 miles on them.

I've seen similar vehicles here in the U.S. used as courtsey transporters (parking lot to front door).  And the last time I was at the dealership they had similar looking electric cars ($18,000) that would sell big in large self-sufficient retirement communities (where they've been using golf carts).

There is a compressed air car being developed for India as well right now.
