Refinishing SP Tech Revelation speakers
« on: 22 Oct 2021, 03:13 am »
I am in the process of bringing a neglected pair of SP Revelations back to life. They are a beautiful walnut, the only one made in this material according to the maker. The cabinets are almost done and another member kindly sold me a pair of external crossovers. I am now looking for info on what the original drivers and tweeters were as well as a schematic on how to get these babies singing again. Any help is greatly appreciated

That is a great project and those speakers are very highly regarded. One of the members here, Double Ugly, might have owned them, but he hasn’t been active for a while. That’s a bit disappointing that Bob couldn’t help you out. I had his Timepiece 2.0s and thought they were terrific. There are a few reviews and comments online and maybe you could contact some of those individuals to see how good their recollection is, if they have notes etc. One of those reviews I just read was by teajay over at Audiogon. Good luck  :thumb:

I appreciate the info...last time I talked to Bob he told me he would get in touch after a few days due to personal issues. Unfortunately was October 6th. Anyone else with some knowledge on these speakers? I will attempt to get in touch with the members you mentioned.

Hi,

Just wondering what the actually problem is with the speakers?  Do you want to upgrade the crossover parts and that is why you need a schematic? Are the drivers and or tweeters blown so you have obtain new one's. You could remove the speaker and that should reveal the model number for you.

Have you completed the re finish of the speakers because they look fabulous in the photos.

Cheers Rod

DoubleUgly had timepieces and hasn't posted in a decade. Not sure if he's still with us.

ted_b owned the Revelations, and he is clever enough to remember the details.

Search the archived Aether Audio circle for info.

They used "custom" SEAS Excel woofer which were state of the art back then.
Good luck!

Thanks Rocket, yes I have finished the exterior cabinets. I believe the woofers are original but the tweeters were removed by a previous owner that attempted to "customize" them. I am looking to get them back to when Bob made them, or possibly better with his upgraded parts.

I will try and get in touch with ted_b and see what information he can recall. Thanks for the lead. Im just hoping Bob gets back to me and we can complete these magnificent speakers.

I poked around the old SP Tech website but didn't find any useful information. The website looked great at the beginning of 2005 until it disappeared on Dec 19th.

Aether Audio has a legacy page, the reviews are glowing but not helpful either

Yeah that's the path I took too. I was hoping to find someone  who has them or had them in the past (with a solid memory). I still haven't lost hope that Nob will respond and fill in the lost info

If all else is lost you could send them to Danny at GR Research for a new crossover design.
