Ridge Street Sason ..The forgotten Monitor
« on: 28 Jan 2016, 07:02 pm »
I wonder if anyone still has these speakers
I feel that these have fallen off the popularity list
They do so many things right and sound awesome when setup optimally
Any owners care to chime in

What do these have to do with planar speakers?  Looks like a conventional box enclosure with cone midbass and dome tweeter.

My bad this went to the wrong spot
Do we have a conventional speaker forum

I think that would be

Enclosures

"A circle devoted to just about anything to do with subwoofers, woofers, squawkers, and tweeters in boxes."

I hosted a presentation at my home some years ago, where Robert and Steve came along and spent a couple days hanging out with us yokels and giving us a rare old sonic treat with the (then) new Sason.
At that time Robert was riding the crest of a wave, as far as I could tell, fronting his popular line of cables, cords and accessories.

I've spent time recently trying to find out what happened to Robert, hoping that he's in good health and enjoying life at some level, but he seems to have all but disappeared from the radar, at least the radar that I use to track people down.

I hope he's well. Steve too. A couple of decent blokes with a great product that didn't quite seem to catch a foothold.

Thanks Rooze for your commentary
When I see what high end book shelf monitors speakers are fetching these days I'm surprised the Sason didn't take off at it's price point
I have spoken to Steve in the last while he's doing well
Interested to hear from other Sason users
Cheers

I never owned the Sason, but had a couple of extended listening sessions with them. They really are very, very good. At the time, I couldn't afford them. After I was able to gather enough funds, RSA was out of business. I owned quite a few of Robert's cables, and they were really good also. I always wondered what happened and how he is doing. I am not sure how many pairs of Sasons were ever built, but you almost never see them for sale. I believe I have only ever seen one pair for sale. That should say something about whether owners are satisfied with their purchase. For what ever reason, they never got the attention they deserved. What a shame.

fwiw I wholeheartedly agree... I have a pair of Sason's and they aren't going anywhere anytime soon.
Curious to the previous poster how the Sason's compare to your current speakers you have now
Different presentation I'm guessing

Eric Hider of DB Audio has a pair but I haven't seen him post in some time. I heard them at both Marbles' and Eric's places and they were very impressive, within their limits. In today's crazy $$$$ speaker market, they'd certainly be a steal.

I also have to say Eric's ear for setting them up was amazing, done in a matter of a few minutes.

Anybody else care to chime in

Heard them in a system at RMAF years ago. These were made in La Porte, IN, right? I remember being impressed despite the presenter saying the tube amps driving them were not ideal.

I have a pair of Sason Ltd, the older 140 pounds model.
They throw a very huge soundstage and have incredible harmonic details.
In my case they perform best when positioned about 45% out into the room.
I load the stands with dry sand. Anyone compare sand vs lead shots for the 2 front columns?

I have led shot in the front column and kitty litter in the back
I agree they do sound best when they are quite a ways from the back wall
What amplification you using by chance ?

Plinius SA-REF + Bent Audio TX102 silver TVC.
Robert told me the best amps he heard with the Sason are the Atma-Sphere MA1 and M60.
What are you using between the stands and floor?
I have concrete floor and installing the supplied spikes makes the sound harsh.
I ended using thin teflon gliders for furniture.
