Mike was just saying that there's no reason to be embarrassed for liking P-Funk (and this thread is about music to be embarrassed for liking)...and that most people he knows would be embarrassed for *not* liking P-Funk... icon_cool.gif

That's the confusing part, my musical taste got slammed for liking something he likes.

There. ....I just finished listening to Funk-a-delic. I feel better, and proud.

That stuff makes me want to dye my hair green. This thread means I will now listen to more P-Funk. It would match my work clothes. Green Funk. G-Funk. Grand Funk     hmmmm----> Another embarrassment.

That is exactly what he meant ohenry....thanks for clearing it up Phil. Parliament is Funk-O-Docious, myaan! :guitar:
Hey, since when should we be worried about listening to the likes of Heart,Toto or even Fleetwood Mac??  Those bands used to rock back in the day....Does that mean I have to be Hush Hush about my Molly Hatchet albums?
Don't knock George Micheals "Older" album-it is well recorded and pretty good to boot. Now if I can only get that stupid Hillary Duff album out of my head....hmm, wish my daughter would not play it as I fear it may fester in my ears like some disease. :o

I like the musical score from the "Fantasticks".  Some of you may know Jerry Orbach was in the original cast in this musical in '60.

But when I was a teen in the '70s I really dug classical pipe organ music, while all my friends listened to Jimi Hendrix, The Who, AC/DC, Led Zep, Pink Floyd, Rolling Stones, Boston, Kansas...

My girlfriend caught me listening to a Bach prelude and fugue through my Koss headphones one evening after school; she told all our friends that I liked "queer organ music" over Fleetwood Mac or The Doors! Needless to say she didn't remain my girlfriend after that!

I still love organ compositions, and I still love my vast classic rock collection, and now I'll also listen to The Cranberries, The Cure, Pet Shop Boys, Norah Jones, even Prodigy and 311!

I wasn't slamming you- just saying exactly as Philnyc says- P-FUNK is nothing to be embarressed about.  P-Funk, Funkadelic, George Clinton, and Bootsy's Rubber Band is kick ass music- that's all I'm saying.

I even said, perhaps obtusely, that if P-Funk is your bad music, then your musical taste is rarefied indeed.

Michael

Don't get me started on Diana Krall.  I've caused E500 enogh problems with my joking jabs at Talk, so no need to bring in something I really despise.

I forgot to mention soundtreks to Hair and Rocky Horror! Anybody else still listen to these?

Yes! Rocky Horror!

My brothers and I grew up listening to an old beat up audio cassette of Rocky Horror that we dubbed off of an LP we checked out from the local public library.

It was the original cast recording from the stage production. I must say, I think the stage production recording kicks the pants off of the more commonly available motion picture soundtrack. So much more fun and happy.

If you haven't heard the stage production recording yet, I highly recommend it!

It's funny - I think a lot of people I know secretly love all this stuff, too, but pretend to be good-naturedly dismissive about it. Think about it - a bunch of people sitting in a room listening to music they like and every one of them feeling self-conscious. Wacky!

Kinda like watching porn with your dad, I guess.

Well, speaking as a middle aged audio lover, it isn't the normal fare you hear at the get togethers I go to....I do enjoy them however.  That was when there was humor in Rap and not so much the violence..

It's all stuff I love or appreciate.

You might be embarrassed, though, if your dad, brothers, and friends listened to a steady diet of Slayer, Metallica, and Rob Zombie.

All in the context, isn't it?

Well, I have over 75 rock-a-billy albums!  Is that good enough?  The one man band Hasil Adkins is an interesting one...  as a child he naturally assumed his radio idols not only sang, but played all their own instruments at the same time.  He set out to do the same, supposedly that's how the title to his CD, "What The Hell Was I Thinking" came about.

Thats scary. Trouble is I've got that .... The Complete Works of Goober and the Peas. That and the Pott County Pork and Bean Band (Western Electric).

Speaking of funk, the soundtrack for The Muppets from Space  :o  has some great funk on it. Shining Star by The Dust Brothers, Flashlight (Spacefight) by George Clinton, Brick House by The Commodores, Dazz by G Love, It's Your Thing by The Isley Bros, but the creme de la creme has to be Celebration by The Alien Gongos.

I'll go hide now.....
