I don't know how to classify this stuff on Frances the Mute is really innovative yet familiar.  There is some scorching guitar and a vibe that reminds me of early Janes Addiction but these guys are really crazy musicians.

Here is a link to the songs on Amazon:

Also check out their very different debut album: De-Loused in the Comatorium.  It's more accessable and really cool.  Here is a link:

The debut album reminds me of early Pink Floyd with a cool 70's vibe (in a good way).  These guys are freaky and cool.

If you like those, check their former band At the Drive-In is a completely scorching band from Texas, not a hotbed for punk rock but these guys are really angry in a cool way.  Kind've remind me of Rage meets Jane's Addiction...again, in a good way.

Here are the clips on Amazon.  Something different when you need an angry break from Nora Jones and Diana Krall.  I don't know how I missed these guys when they were still together.  :  http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B00000BKBR/qid=1116275548/sr=1-2/ref=sr_1_2/102-6635275-6007320?v=glance&s=music

Lastly, another band sprung from the ashes of At the Drive-In, they are called Sparta.  Same singer as Drive-In.  Their best album is Porcelain.  I have it on loan from a friend but I will pick it up soon, especially if I can find it at the used CD store!  Here is a link:  http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B0002FQBCO/ref=m_art_li_1/102-6635275-6007320?v=glance&s=music

The singer from At the Drive-In (I'm a fan btw) went on to Sparta which is a pretty good band too.  I like their first album Wiretap Scars better than their sophmore album.

Hey, thanks Josh.  I added my post at the same time you were adding yours.  I haven't heard that album, other than the snippets on Amazon.  Will pick it up, especially if I can find it cheap.  Porcelain is also very good.  I don't know how I missed these guys, although I was into different music in the late 90's.
