I've been looking for an excuse to visit Seattle. Hope that it works out.

Excellent news! I'll keep it in mind for next year's fun.

Congratulations, Lou!

I hope this perspective doesn’t hold true:

https://audiophilereview.com/audiophile-news/time-for-a-change-in-audio-manufacturers-marketing-to-reflect-a-post-audio-show-world.html

Best,
Anand.
I think it's similar to books.  Some still love a "real" book while many love their electronic book.  The masses will still go to an audio show but you get a lot of people like myself that go for the social aspect to see you rather than to really look and purchase.

Those days of going to buy are long gone for me at this point while I have the end game system and enjoy other activities outside the house now.  What does this mean?  It means that being creative in a new and exciting way is what the industry needs.  What that looks like I have no idea but connecting via YouTube is certainly on the right path IMO.

The key is to have that personal connection and build rapport, once that is done; you pretty much have a customer for life as long as you're not a shit-bag.   :)

I wonder if 2021 will bring back the willingness to gather in large groups? It can get crowded at shows.

I think they should wait to see how this year effects present shows next year before they commit to a possible failure.

It will be interesting to see what 2021 brings us. My favorite part of shows is the socialising as well. Its great to meet both customers and other industry friends as well as meeting new friends and industry participants. Everyone is always very sociable and even manufacturers learn a lot from shows.
Hope to see everyone at the next show. Let's hope it's not too long before we can all get together again.
Till then, stay safe.

People are clamoring return to normal. That includes traveling and gathering in large crowds. This pandemic probably won't affect next year's audio show attendance (unless there's another outbreak).

Not sure why it hasn't occurred yet, but there should be a new model for audio reviews. For instance, you conduct a live webinar with a handful of audio enthusiasts who convene in someone's home. You can compare products with one another and receive immediate feedback. It can also be interactive. Part of what made Tyson and Pez's reviews interesting was they didn't always agree on what they heard, and they could be 100% impartial. I would prefer to watch a review summary from several people than read a bunch of hyperbole in a written review from a single person.

I didn't see specific mention in the announcement but there are some other prominent audio companies in the PNW, including at least Modwright (an AudioCircle sponsor) and Genesis.  I would hope they are also significantly involved in this endeavor (and note that there is already anticipation that the Aug 2021 date may need to be pushed back)

Lou Hinkley and Gary Gill have made a very WISE decision. Capital Audiofest is a fantastic show and really draws a splendid mix of vendors. Count the WD as "subscribed" and I have a contact in Seattle who has been doing shows there for years. His market is primary the Microsoft/IT crown but they do listen to music and have "discretionary income" shall we say. I will send him the registration page once it is posted and am sure he will send it out to his crowd, it can't hurt.

Best,

I also hope that perspective is false. This is not a virtual hobby, it is real and one has to be physically present to hear what different systems can actually do. Music is essentially emotional not intellectual.  Obviously I have thought a lot about shows (for years) and also the changes in the industry. As noted there was a time when you could visit a couple of stores in your area and hear pretty much all there was available in the audio world. Those days are gone forever and the only comparison are consumer audio shows. There is also the aspect of community, I am very pleased to see other people here stress that!  I have been in several industries and the audiophile world has a very strong aspect of community. For me this is the driving factor in promoting this show.

btw, here is a link to a page with a basic description of how I see the audiophile community.

thanks for all the support, and hopefully we will be enough past Covid fifteen months from now to once again enjoy each other's company.

I am one Seattle-ite who is jazzed about this, and I know there are a lot more around here.
I applaud Lou; I've met him and owned his speakers and he is  a solid player in the community.

Lou

Congratulations

All the best in your new quest.

Being confident when others are hesitant or fearful always pays off.

I am sure many vendors would be excited about a new venue to show their wares,

I can only speak for myself - when I look at choosing an audio show to attend 0 the area and time of year are key.

Chicago in the winter - no.

Denver in Early October - was phenominal - not only the show but the lure to hike in the high country under the quaking fall aspen and first snows on the highest mountains.

There are not too many more magical places than lush Washington in August - a month mostly devoid of liquid sunshine.

May this become a premier show and a great gateway to Daedalus Audio!

I wonder if 2021 will bring back the willingness to gather in large groups? It can get crowded at shows.

People were not afraid at Lake of the Ozarks this weekend. Massive crowds, people from most states were here. Crowds even in bars.

Hey Lou, how about one in St. Louis?
