I failed to mention that we are again in Semarang, fast becoming my favorite city.  It's very nice here, a hilly place, and not as hectic or polluted as JKT, or as hot as Surabaya.

Ciao,

Hugh

Aha, Surabaya ... as in Kurt Weill's "Surabaya Johnny"!   :D  I have the original - and the greatest - Lotte Lenya singing that!   :thumb:  And now a piece of trivia ... did you know that the evil Rosa Krebs, in the second (well, the second "official" Bond film, if you don't count the Woody Allen/David Niven "Casino Royale") Bond film "From Russia With Love" was played by Lotte Lenya?

You can run your business from anywhere, Hugh ... why don't you up and move to Semarang?  :thumb:

Regards from Melbourne, where it's been over 35 deg today ... and more tomorrow!  :D

Regards,

Andy

Andy,

I live in hope the high temperatures in Melbourne will be over by the time I arrive on 20th......  my commiserations to all of you!

There are three impediments to moving my business here.  One, language and culture, as different to English speaking westerners as it's possible to get.  Two, availability of a wide range of parts for my products.  There are many components available here, it is true, but importation would still be necessary (as it is from Melbourne).  However, the postal system is not reliable and subject to many hidden expenses.  Third, the weather.  It is not entirely to my liking;  tropical regions are extremely harsh environments, and after 57 years in temperate zones I doubt I could happily make the shift.  I love the seasons, and the wide variation in the daily weather, and the low humidity.

Notwithstanding, the low cost of labour, the entrepreneurial attitudes, the lack of government tax and general interference, these are attractive aspects!

Cheers,

Hugh

Hi Hugh,
This week's heat has gone far far away here in Ballarat, but summer forecasted to return about time of your arrival home.  You'll be used to it!
See you some time thereafter.
