Thanks everyone for the suggestions. I've got a few things on order and should be listening to some
cool new jazz by the end of the week.  :thumb:

"All Music Guide to Jazz" book is a very useful tool. I own two copies! Still available via Amazon. Even the earlier editions are great for looking for music.

"I like the "Sunday morning sit back, read the paper and relax" attitude of it."

For this kind of listening, I go with;

Lee Morgan - The Sidewinder
Cannonball Adderly - Somethin' Else
Ella Fitzgerald - The Best of the SongBooks
Bill Evans - Quintessence

If you like "She was too good to me" (great side) then you'll like this one:

Jim Hall's Concierto is just wonderful!  I too second the choice!

So many great suggestions so far but not a mention of the Ray Brown Trio:

Live at Scullers
Bass Face
Red Hot Ray Brown Trio
Summer Wind
Soular Energy.

Any of the Ray Brown Gene Harris (jazz pianist extrordinaire) collaborations are a can't miss.  My recommendation of one to start with would be Soular Energy.  I have it on a Pure Audiophile Records 180g double LP that is just superb.

Eddie Lockjaw Davis - Cookbook vol 1

This is slowly climbing up to become one of my top 10, if not top 5 for the song 'In the Kitchen'.

But you have to like the sound of a Hammond B3, as that's what Scottie Girl is playing on this.

...there is also The Blues in Jazz section that is found  in the All Music Guide to The Blues ( a companion volume to the jazz book quoted above )...this section collects most of the Saturday/ Sunday morning type recordings and puts them nicely in one spot ( with the bonus of being part of a great blue reference guide )...

Cheers
