My wonderful loving dog that I had for 13 years finally succumbed to liver cancer. She didn't suffer much. Had a great long life with much freedom. We will miss her a lot and always remember her. Hope to meet up on the other side. Her photos make me smile.

Sorry for you loss Steve, they're always in your heart. We have a 6 year old Choc Lab who, most fortunately, never judges me.

Too bad, sorry to know this news, my cat are 13 yo now.

Such beautiful and gentle-souled beings. Dogs make this world a better place, their love is real, their loyalty unwavering. I'm very sorry for your loss, it may help ease the pain to think about the good life she enjoyed because she got to be part of your family. You can just tell from the pictures she was a very happy dog.

Seen on bumper sticker: "Lord, help me be the person my dog thinks I am."

My condolences, Steve.
I'm fortunate to have met Lucy. She had a sweet and friendly soul. :(

Our four legged kids bring out the best in us.
Because of them we are better people.
Long may she run.

Very sorry for your loss. My daughter sent this quote to me when my 13yo best friend died and it sums up my endearing thoughts about 4 legged best friends
“A person can learn a lot from a dog. They teach us about living each day with unbridled exuberance and joy, about seizing the moment and following your heart. They teach us to appreciate the simple things-a walk in the woods, a fresh snowfall, a nap in a shaft of winter sunlight. And as they grow old and achy, they teach us about optimism in the face of adversity. Mostly, they teach about friendship and selflessness and, above all else, unwavering loyalty.”

Unconditional love. I don't know how long I can survive without one. My friends tell me that losing a dog was more painful for them than losing a parent.

Sorry for your loss Steve. I just lost my best friend Maui (pictured on the right) in March. We have had two golden retrievers in the house for the last 20 years or so. It's crushing when one passes but having another in the house helps. We're picking up a new puppy this Saturday and the circle will continue.

This was sent to me when my Bessie died:
“It came to me that every time I lose a dog they take a piece of my heart with them. And every new dog who comes into my life gifts me with a piece of their heart. If I live long enough, all the components of my heart will be dog, and I will become as generous and loving as they are.”

Losing family sucks. Furry or otherwise.
Hope you're able to connect with friends and family during this rough time Steve.

Old labs and goldens should have abdominal x-ray once a year and blood work-up. They typically get tumors on spleen or liver. Lucy had her spleen removed with a benign tumor and lived another 6 months. She was like a young dog again until the liver cancer ultimately got her.
Another key thing to watch for is a front leg limp. This is usually not the leg, but the guts.

My sincere condolences, Steve. Lucy had it good with you and your family. Please come back and show us your new family member when you are ready.

Our dogs bring us such joy, and it's hard when we lose them. But all of life is transitory, so we keep our memories and move on.

I love your measurement quotation. It's unbelievable how this becomes religion, even tribal.
At the same time, 1/3 of the US population refuses to agree with the climate scientists worldwide.

Dogs are incredible, his personality was made to please and understand the human being and be their helper, below a good news, dogs of a homeless man awaiting longing at the hospital door for their owner to be treated.
