This just gives a nice central place to see everybody's stuff.
My already posted E-linear KT88 SE amp.

So when are you going to submit an extensive review of your Geddes Abbey speakers? :green: I suppose you can't review your own work on the Transporter.

Excellent review Mike. :thumb: Pretty much sums up what I heard when I was at Geddes'. Another thing I noticed was that due to lack of distortion we were playing at much higher levels that I perceived. Do you find yourself playing any louder?
Henry,
What model Edcors did you use? I have heard of people measuring to 30hz with the standard ones and when all is said and done they are more or less full-range.
I used the GSXE on my SE amp and it definitely has no lack of bottom end.
I will post pics of my projects when I get home.

Hi Bill,
I used the ones provided in the kit, I believe they were XSE10-8-8K (10 watt, 8k resistance). Compared to my Carina and other amps, it was obvious that while these produced bass, they just didn't have the heft. I ordered the Transcendar 10 watt, 8k and the difference in tone is very noticeable and desirable for me.
Many Spud guys are running the big 15" Silver Iris speakers and maybe in that application the Spud isn't bass shy. Regardless, it's a great little amp and it's a keeper for me.
Sounds cool Tom. It feels great to accomplish your own system goals doesn't it?Thanks Josh. I feel good about having almost my entire system DIY or heavily modded commercial stuff now. A pair of Abbeys would really top that off, but my budget can't handle it at the moment
What drives the SE F4? Or did you build in a gain stage?
Thanks guys. I will post a non crappy iphone pic later.
I really want to do a turntable from scratch... who's the person to talk/bother/annoy with questions aaGiven your talent for wood, you might do a search for "Teres" threads on AC and elsewhere. Also there are some folks here doing cool things with precious old Empires and Lenco's.

Thanks Tom... I think my old man has a Merill turntable that has been packed away for 10ish years.. I may need to experimentThat is a superb platform to start with... Any specs available on his little gem? You sure do beautiful diy work. :notworthy:
Cheers,

A little something for the tube crowd. A battery powered pre.Very nice!

Very nice! Thanks - the cabinet is Brazillian rosewood. The chassis is acrylic. I will be building a larger versioin of the cabinet to mount my new EL34 amp I'm building.
Ed - I'm sure your speakers sound great but really, who cares. They are such beautiful craftsmanship and have such an alluring art deco mystique, they earn their place on looks alone. They kinda look like penguins.
Pete Millett s Low Mu Pre Amp .Just finished worked with out any problems .Dead quiet no hum

What do you think of that Chinese motor?
I was thinking about ordering one myself for a TT mod project I have in the works.
Thanks
Dave
first one smoked and was replaced. the case alone is worth their asking price, not fond of their oring belt or pully, needed to tweak the voltage to get enough speed adjustment
I recently finished building these 4th order bandpass subs, which I designed to complement my Geddes Abbeys.

Looks good Anand. How does it sound?
Nice jop Anand. :thumb:

NICE! Can I Have One!
TrungT, Very nice! Just wondering where did you source that enclosure? Tom
Anand,
Very nice build!
Kudos on your choice of a toroidal transformer with with a shield between primary and secondary. It makes for an effective shunt to ground for line noise which without shield would capacitively couple from primary to secondary.

Paul
Love the speakers Dave!! My wife says "they're beautiful..."
I really wanted to do EI core, but at these sizes (200+ VA), they hum and buzz.Like mine. :(
Anand.
I like the stand Bob, very nice. I'll bet you had some spare baltic birch left over from one of your many speaker projects. :)Yessir, I do. Thank you for the complement Mike. :D
They say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. Well I have an Acer A500 tablet and I may well copy your slick little stand. Now there's a compliment. :lol:I never thought I'd see the day when you would copy me Mike. :o
You do need help
Do heating elements change resistance with temperature?
Look pretty cool Mike!
The workshop looks like it's serving you well too.
Ohh....Amen to that. :duh:
The single most productive piece of equipment I own is the dust collector.
That thing has saved me more time than any other tool in the workshop.
Kinda reminds me of when audio guys get around to acoustically treating their room, they say, "I wish I would have done that sooner".
Yea. It's like that.
Wow, those look great! Which Faital did you use? Very nice form factor.
