Hi Jim - - No advantage to upsampling in my opinion.  The only issue I have had with mp4a is lack of album art which i do not have with Flac.

You can add album art to the mp4a.  iTunes and other like players might optimize storing the artwork outside of the file to speed up scrolling through the albums.  For iTunes, all you need to do is "copy" the artwork and "paste" it back to the album, there's probably other applications that will do that as well

Hello all; I'm running a Mac Mini with an external HD feeding my DAC and I have a question regarding file management.  I usually back up my HD from the master iTunes file on my iMac over my home network using a program called ChronoSync which does this automatically on a daily basis, keeping both libraries in sync.  This is easily done over the network, without having to unplug the HD and then plug it into the iMac then back again.  Would I be able to do this with the HD plugged into the BDP-1? 

Alternatively, if the HD is plugged into the BDP-1 and I plug a USB thumb drive onto another port, could I use the BDP-1 to transfer the files from the USB thumb drive to the attached HD?  Or, could I do this by accessing the BDP-1 over my home network and manually transfer the files?

Hi,

 I am not sure on the sync function but you can transfer a file from any of the attached harddrives 'over the network' to any other attached drive as long as the drive is formatted FAT32.

As I do not have an iPad I was looking at a small (7") tablet PC with wifi, so I could use Mini, but most I have looked at run Android 1.6 and the user guide for the BDP-1 says Android 1.5 OR Android 2.2, does that mean these tablets will not work?

We are going to test the Samsung Galaxy Tablet as soon as I can get a hold of one.

I have used Bryston Max and Mini successfully on three Android tablets (all ViewSonic) using the default browsers:
ViewPad7 - 7” running Froyo (2.2)
ViewPad10s - 10” running Froyo (2.2)
Viewpad10 - 10” (dualboot) running Donut (1.6) and Windows 7
All suffer the same issues of not scrolling down a playlist, but then this also occurs with most desktop browsers (I’m hoping this will be fixed in a future FW release but it’s not a big issue as there are alternatives). For the most part they run OK and certainly sufficiently well for basic control of the BDP-1.

Hi James,

I found two that I like, the first is MPDroid as you state above and the second is Droid MPD Client. Both seem to work quite well and Droid MPD Client also uses LastFM for Album and Artist data (similar to mPod for the Apple devices) and links to Amazon and YouTube for additional information.

Yes it is possible that will work but configuration might be more difficult than you want to endure.  You would have to set up your computer as a bridge between two networks and if your router is a wireless router, any wireless device might not see it.   Also, you might need a unique crossover Ethernet cable between the computer and the BDP-1.     

If you are out of Ethernet ports on your router pick up an Ethernet switch and connect that to the router and your computer and BDP to the switch.  The most difficult part is the physical aspect of plugging in the cables.    BTW, I actually prefer the dell business models for ethernet switches, no wallwart, and on sale over the weekends when business are most likely closed

Hi Al,

Normally you would use one of the Ethernet OUTPUTS from the Router into the BDP-1.  Speaking with engineering they say the way you're suggesting is possible but you have two concerns doing it that way:

1. Addressing the 2 separate Ethernet ports on the computer so there is no interfearence.

2. You would have to use an Ethernet 'crossover cable' between the Computer and the BDP-1 (not a straigt through cable)
