John Mayall • Looking Back
Two years ago I bought Lou Hinkley's (Daedalus Audio) Ambrose One all tube preamp that matches my Ambrose 30 tube monoblocks. I opened the boxes and then let it sit for two years because I was too lazy to go through the effort of changing out my ModWright L.S. 36.5 dual box pre amp for the Ambrose One. My equipment sits next to aside wall with limited room behind the equipment so the swap required some effort. On Labor day, I finally decided to change out the preamps. I wish I would have done it 2 years ago. I love my system and the 36.5 DM is a great preamp, but the Ambrose One hit it out of the park. The music is more alive, more detail, expanded soundstage. Here's a link if you want to read about it, https://www.modwright.com/products/ambrose-one-preamp.php.As a result, I'm listening to some old favorites that I know well. Incredible sound quality.
Good to hear the swap was worth the effort Laura, and that you were well pleased. Though given the work Dan & company do probably not a big surprise. Recently swapped in my LS100 pre, it's been a while since it was in the rotation. While I don't have much more room than you I was able to set things up so I can rotate the rack for, relatively speaking, easy access to the back for moving cables. Nice run of Jimmy B too.
