Which Output Tubes Are In Your Main System..?
« on: 1 Sep 2020, 03:48 pm »
I'm looking at getting into a 300B for my Tekton Double Impact SE's..
I'm Still very new to tubes..
I own a Decware, Zen Mystery Amp and a Odyssey Audio, Stratos Extreem ++ amp...
They are both respectable amps, but I'm looking for an amp that will let me hear 90-99% of the music at VERY low volume levels (Between a Talking and a Whisper level ,50-60 db)..

Aric Audio , has my attention..
I'm looking at his Special 300b..

What are your guys thoughts on making this move towards ordering an Aric Audio 300b for my Tekton's..

Right now I'm using an Aric Audio passive pre/ switch box, for the volume control..

When I use the SS (odyssey) amp I sweeten, and attenuate the input with a Decware, CSP3 preamp.

When using the Decware, Mystery amp , I  just attenuate the input with the amps on board volume control..

I'M SO CONFUSED, ..!!

I recently purchased the Charney Audio Maestro 103db speakers.  I listen at low volumes in a small office.

I have a Chinese built EL34 and the speaker hiss drove me nuts.  I purchased a Chinese built 300b monos and I liked the 300b sound but the speaker hum was loud so I returned them.

What I learned is to get a 300b amp with quality transformers.  I am having someone build the Ank Audio K-1 Classic 300b kit for me.  There are kits from Elekit TU-8600s which I heard sounds good.

What I read is the 45 tube amps sound more realistic than the 300b.  The amps from Yamamoto and Electra-Print are out of my budget.

i'd love to hear Aric's amps. i believe he uses custom-wound Transcendar OTs with silver-coated teflon leads. with the separate all film power supply it must be wonderful at all volumes and breathtaking at the low low volumes. i've spoken with him about building me a 45 SET much like his super 2a3 set. the 45 triode is certainly my preference. definitely worth chatting with him.

Same in the VTL MB250s.

KT150s in my Aric Audio Transcend Push Pull.
@Delta77 when I had Tektons my MicroZOTL2 at 1 watt sounded sweet at low volume, better than the Aric. The Aric rocked the house though :-)

Real Gold Lion KT77's with a 1968 tall bottle 5U4G and a Pope (Mullard) 6SN7 in my custom Dennis Had KT77 amp. I had the tubes and wanted to know whatt they sounded like.

I also have a Don Sachs Kootney 120 amp with Shuguang WEKT88+ and WE6SN7+ tubes. Both sound wonderful.

I also have a Dennis Had Inspire 45 amp. It kills me that 2 watts are not enough. It's time to let this one go.

Plate Cap output tubes all the way for me.  My primary mono amps sport a quad of 1625, which is a 12 volt version of the 807.  Works great as a audio output tube.

My secondary set of mono amps employs a pair of 8552, which is a 12 volt version of the 6146B radio transmitting tube.  These little buggers can put out 100 watts from a pair.   Careful attention to the screen voltage is needed,  but as long as that is addressed,  the 8552 makes for a good sounding audio tube.

The best thing about these tubes are the fact that they are quality NOS tubes.  The 1625 is especially reliable and long lasting,  and they are very reasonably priced. Hard to beat that.
