Earlier tonite I had the most mediocre Margarita ever at popular Mexican chain restaurant.  Whadda ya expect, I suppose.  Taste like they made a couple gallons in advance and dispensed them from a tap.  If I'm ever there again, I'll be going for bottle beer.

That's been my experience with Mexican chains and chains in general. 2 shots of Tequila per gallon of mix. Get a Negra Modelo next time.

First one always tastes rough; by the third or fourth they start to taste better!
That's the advice I always give would be scotch drinkers.

Jerome, you are killing me!!

Mike

I'll try to go easy on you.

This is a single cask distillery bottling of Old Pulteney.  The label doesn't give any details on the cask other than the number (cask 29), but my guess would be a first fill bourbon cask.  It was matured for 16 years and bottled at a full strength of 57.9% ABV.  When I found this bottle there was another single cask OP labeled cask 30 so I bought them both.  I finished the cask 30 off a few months ago.  It was very similar to this one...quite tasty.

Octomore Comus 4.2.  Peated to 167ppm and matured in ex Sauternes wine casks.  61% ABV

The Sauterns cask maturation softens this peat bomb a little, but it is still like having a swarm of hornets dancing on your tongue when you drink it.  And you have to drink it at full strength.  This whisky falls apart when you add water.

I've also been enjoying some of the local gin... Cap Rock, Spirit Hound and Roundhouse.

I love this man.  He is a music and film connissuer (well, maybe you can spell that without looking it up) that we don't hear enough from.  Get my drift, Z?  Gets lonely out here sometimes.

Hey, Dave, I do like the area and hope I can take you up on your advice.

Manhattan made with Bulleit Rye and Noilly Prat sweet vermouth.  Not a terribly big fan of Bulleit Rye.  Trying to use what's left in this bottle.  My favorite rye whiskies are Whistlepig and Thomas H. Handy.

Hahaha...  Wait, there is a such thing as 2% low fat milk?

Currently finishing strong coffee shortly before bed... (smart).

I bought this bottle of Longmorn about six months ago from The Whisky Exchange in London.  This is their own bottling, part of what they call the Masterpieces series.  It was distilled in May of 1978 and matured for 31 years in an ex-bourbon cask.  It is not chill filtered and has no coloring added, and is bottled at a natural cask strength of 58% ABV.  This is only the third pour I have taken  from the bottle since I want to make it last and it was rather expensive.  But I felt like treating myself to something special tonight.  This is truly a spectacular single malt scotch whisky.  There is a lot of complexity here, with plenty of influence from the oak...but it does not dominate.  There's still a great deal of distillery character to be found here.
