LampizatOr Audio is pleased to sponsor a circle on this great forum which has been my personal stomping ground for many years. We hope this forum can be a location for owners, enthusiasts and perspective interest to hang out and discuss all things LampizatOr.
For those of you who are unfamiliar with us, LampizatOr is a Polish based high end audio company founded by Lukasz Fikus, which specializes in providing custom solutions for individuals' needs and preferences.
The word LampizatOr is a play on the polish word for vacuum tube, "Lampa" and the pop culture icon The Terminator. It is a nickname given to Lukasz Fikus by friends, customers and followers in the DIY community who enjoyed and benefited from his out of the box solutions over the years.
Thanks for stopping in and we hope you will stick around to contribute!

Glad to see you starting a circle from this. Glad to see a great ACer jump in and distribute these superb DACs in North America.
As anyone who has spent anytime around here should know, Fred (Gopher) is a fabulous guy, and the ampizatOr considered great stuff by many knowledgeable ACers.

Fantastic!!! I'm a big fan of the Lamp man because he obviously knows what he's talking about, and he does an exceptional job explaining technical stuff using a common sense approach. Glad to see a circle here.

Hi Fridays
The L5 is can be configured with Ecc182s or 6SN7s. I've heard both in my home and think they both sound excellent. When rolling in the two different units I preferred the Russian MELZ for 6SN7s and the Phillips SQs for Ecc182s. There is no unanimous winner IMO, preference is more based on users taste.

Thanks, guys! I have a feeling this is going to be a great circle! :thumb:

I didn't forget you. I've got a pair of Slyvania 6X5s in my car headed out to you Monday to play with. The Slyvanias and staggered plate Tung Sols have been my favorite rectifiers.

I'm so glad to see you guys here and that work is being done on a North American website.
More people need to know about your excellent sounding products!
Welcome!

Hi Fred, Hi Rob! Very glad you guys chose to start this circle because the word needs to get out more about these great products! Thanks for carrying the Lampi torch and I'm sure that for a product that "Speaks for itself" once it's in your system...a little 'speaking here' can help get it there for many more. It was great working with both of you and my listening room has never been better since the introduction of my L4G4 except for when I moved up to my Big 6 (Russian MELZ 6SN7's and NOS Tung Sol 6X5's). Awesome! Thanks again and best of luck!

Hey Fred, Rob best of luck to our Audiosyndrome members who have taken the leap into the Biz. Great product nice Guys what else do ya need. :thumb:

I heard the Lampizator BIG 7 at the Newport beach show 2014 recently and it was the best room at the show. Magico Towers room w/ Pass Labs was nothing compare to the Lampizator BIG 7 room. So was Evolution Acoutistics room with darTzeeL, Wilson room etc.
To sum it up, I said to myself while listening, I can listen to this shit all day long. And I rarely feel that way. It was music magic.
(Now only if Lampi BIG 7 w/ MiniTwo's. It would be perfect :))
-
Thank you so much for this wonderful feedback! Coverage of this show on the forums has been quite sparse, and it is great to see our efforts were recognized!
Best,
Fred

I was also impressed with the sound in our room, bearing in mind that for me the amps and speakers were unknown before the show and the room was small and untreated. On day 1 we uses an unnecessary preamp, but rest of the show we used the DAC as a preamp and going straight to the power block. For the record - we used Jupiter Copper caps at the output and Emission labs "45" DHT tubes. Most of the time we used DSD as a source.

Fred I know Lukasz is busy, but he should have the downloadable manuals for his DAC's available by now. I think people would like to have something as there is no manual for the dac. Thanks Jeff
-
Hi Jeff,
The concern is understood and is being worked on by the same gentleman currently building our new webpage at www.lampizatorna.com
We understand it is a nice finishing touch and will make it available to all prior customers as soon as its complete. In the meantime, we are very accessible by email or telephone to answer any questions users may have.
-
The website is looking great so far.
-
For the most part we are men we dont read manuals
-
Thanks, Keith! We've still got a ways to go on the content and our primary goal, aside from a face lift, is making US offerings a bit simpler to follow.
HAHA, Bruce! That joke was my first impulse, but I refrained! :thumb:

Hi everyone
I currently own a Level 5 Lampi with balanced, pre-amp, DSD and Duelunds. I am about to pull the trigger on upgrading to a Big 7 with DSD and pre-amp (I know I can't have it balanced).
My question is, for those of you who have heard both, how much better is the Big 7 than the L5, and in what areas?
Thanks
Philip
-
Hey Phillip.
I went from 4 to 7 with dsd. And lots of people ask what's the difference. I'm never good at articulating without using the standard clarity, depth, more engaging, ect terms but its everything you love about the 5 and more. The simplest thing I have been suggesting is that if you love you L5 or whatever, you'll really love the big 7. And my only experience with dsd in on my big 7 and I was truly blown away. Hope this helps.

Al, demoed the L4 and Big5, and he owns the Hugo, Direct stream, Mytek and GD Audio Master 7, along with the MSB platinum Plus stack upgraded. The Lampi basically rules all, equal or slightly better than the MSB stack to him. Above the L5 clearly, he says.

Thanks Guf and Norman!

Hey Guys- help needed!!
At present I have a balanced L5 with Ayre MXRs that only have balanced inputs. I am close to pulling the trigger on a Big 7. Only single-ended!
I REALLY don't want to change my MXRs, partly because I love them and partly because I have Thiel 3.7 speakers that need the MXRs to drive them.
So how do I go from the B7 to the MXRs?
* Top of the range Cardas FRCA>MXLR adapters, or
* Putting XLR plugs on the MXR end of a RCA IC and shorting Pins 1 & 3, or
* Spending big bucks on a transformer-based unbalanced to balanced converter.
Advice welcome!!
Philip

This is very cool. I just finished my review of the Lampizator Amber DAC Plus, in which it is compared head to head with the Hegel HD-12 DAC and the Abbingdon Music Research AMR DP-777 DAC/Preamp in a system that features a pair of Von Schweikert VR-5 HSE speakers (check out the pics at the end of the article), which you can view at the following link:

Nice review Juan!
Help me understand why there are other inputs if it only works with USB?
-
"I discovered that the TOSLINK connection did not work unless the DAC was connected to a computer via USB. Via email, Lukasz Ficus said that the Amber was designed primarily as a USB DAC and must be connected to a computer via USB in order for it to work"
So if I want to connect my Bluray/CD player to the DAC via TOSLINK I also need the DAC to be connected via USB to a computer for it to work? I too would appreciate a clarification here - that doesn't sound right to me, is that really by design?
Thanks
-
The answer is "sort of". The Amber was originally a USB only design. That is what the prefab pcb supported and where we saw the demand at the price point, but it seems many really did want SPDIF so the pcb was modified by the ever talented Lukasz Fikus to accept SPDIF/Toslink. Its still a usb dac at heart, but those wanting to use spidf only can connect it once, select spdif and disconnect it forever using their desire spidif. Those wanting to use both have no issue regarding its default.
The explanation sounds quirkier than it is and the sound makes the day 1 setup MORE than worth it.
-
Well that's an interesting design. Thanks for replying Gopher!
As far as ordering an Amber goes, do you get any sort of 30 day money back deal if you order one with upgraded Jupiter Copper foil caps?
I shouldn't really be asking these kinds of questions before consulting with my therapist or more importantly my accountant.
-
The thing is the Amber is being sold with a pretty tight margin and it would put us in the red if we ever have to sell open box, but I tell you what. We've got 9 units purchased and until we have 15 in the field we'll offer a two weekend return period, minus shipping.

So are there any Ambers already out to people? I keep waiting to read owners impressions but all I've seen is the one guy who was waiting for his big 7 give a quick review.
You sure are making it enticing!

Have you come across this amature review preferring a bone stock amber to a $5k AMR DP77: http://www.ayllonmedia.com/1/post/2015/01/the-lampizator-amber-dac-plus-is-it-a-dac-lite-or-a-real-contender-in-home-audio.html
Sure there are some ambers out there and in fact I've got 3 shipping this week one down south to Louisiana one to NY and one to a review in NJ. :)

Yes, I forgot about that one. Seems like the Amber is more common in Europe right now than here in the states at the moment.
-
It was released in Europe by direct sale a few months before we decided to make it available in the US.

Hi all,
just wanted to introduce myself and ask a Lampizator question. My handle is Timon and I live outside of Vancouver BC. Canada.
My main rig is as follows: Bryston bdp-1, Lampizator gen4 level 3.5 dac, modified Space Tech Labs QA-112 tube preamp, Classe S700 amplifier,
Acoustat 2+2 or 1+1 or B&W 805N. My question is where do I send my dac for service? One of the spdif inputs does not seem to work, and I would love to get an aes/ebu and /or a usb input installed.
Thanks,
Tom.
