Usb Stick failed ?
« on: 12 Mar 2011, 01:10 am »
Hello

Anybody here have a USB stick fail on them yet? Have 32gb lexur that garbled my latest Hi-rez Rolling Stone from HDtracks. It will not let me delete the files off the stick and besides the file name ok the tracks are all garbled. Does this sound like a failed usb ?. I can't see it being a virus but it will not delete off my stick.

Hi werd,

Not seen that before - have you tried reformatting the drive to get rid of them?

Thanks guys, it looks like reformat is in order here. If it doesn't reformat then i can assume its defective?

Might stick with the fat 32 format over NTSF. Is there a difference that i might see down the road using either format.

Fat32 has poor character support for file names.  I going to switch to ext3 this weekend which should resolve that.    NTFS is better than fat32 in that regard but has limited support with Linux, probably requires licensing...

Hi skunark,

Please let me know how you make out with ext3.  I have been using FAT32 because of the file transfer advantage on the BDP-1.

Yes I always download my music to my main music computer and then use that as a backup. That way if anything ever goes wrong with your USB drives you have a feash copy.
