SOLVED: NC400+SMPS1200A400 - no sound
« on: 17 Mar 2013, 11:56 pm »
Hi,

I'm trying to put together NC400+SMPS1200A400 as stereo amp and cannot not get any sound out of it :(
Everything lights up, and I can see some output in range of ~10 mV, but this is it...

Double checked all connections and cabling.
Would greatly appreciate any help, please!

Here is the how I connected SMPS1200 to NC400 12-pin connector:

I can see nAMPON looping back into the shrink there, but I don't know where it is wired--it should go to ground. Two other observations:

  • Your speaker wire leads should both come off the same side of the terminals according to Bruno (i.e. both on the left or both on the right in the picture). Yours come out on the "outside" of the terminals.
  • Also relating to the speaker wires, the + and - should be twisted together. You have the + twisted and the - twisted (I assume you are using two wires to decrease the effective gauge).

EDIT: other than that, very nice, clean job with the wiring.

What is nAMPON? Is it "Driver voltage"?

Thanks for notes on output wiring, will re-arrange them when I get some juice out of them..

The extra black wire on your input wiring is for Nampon.  It goes to ground.  Either direct or through a switch which then becomes your "mute".

By the way, what SMPS is that? It's not the NCore-specific one.

The thin one? Bingo! They are not connected to anywhere.
Thanks!

Yes, attach it to chassis ground and you will get sound.  Hopefully.

Very nice build! Looks like the Galaxy Maggiorato case from Hifi2000?
The nc400s will run 5 watt hotter with SMPS1200 than with SMPS600, but you probably know that. I also use SMPS1200, and I use an extra ventilated top-cover.

definitely doesn't look like a hifi2000 case

looks like one of the many cases available on ebay from one of the sellers in china or hk, my monoblocks from china look about the same just shorter.

- no, I don't, but it's OK for Chicago climate :) . So far it runs quite cool.
