THE ROY HARGROVE QUINTET-
  earfood

I saw this group in my town a few years ago. They sounded a little more progressive then. this album is more like a relaxing nightclub gig. The fluglehorn is a beautiful sounding instrument. BTW superb SQ. :D

Amina Figarova - Firewind

I heard her music on a CA jazz station a few weeks ago.  Amina's music was new to me, but reminded me a lot of Maria Scheider's arrangements....but for septet groups or smaller.  This is the first of four of her cds that I ordered last week.  She has released 8-9 recordings.

As the others arrive, I will post them here.

Happy listening,
Lou

Robin,

How do you post the link to the samples but instead of the actual link you use the  word SAMPLES?
Thanks,

Roy

Bill Evans- New Jazz Conceptions (Riverside).

Like to comment on this some.  First up, this is a later release on 45rpm vinyl from Analogue Productions but you wouldn't know it if someone hadn't told you.  There is not a thing on the jacket or in the liner notes that tells you it is not from Riverside, 1956.  There is, I suppose, the fact that it's on two albums.  I've yet to hear Bill Evans so boppish.  Or, Paul Motian, Evan's drummer on many recordings.  The photo on the cover is pristine and the liner notes original and both the front and the back are heavy laminated.  It's mono- don't know much that wasn't round this time- and it sounds like it was recorded with a single mike meaning that instruments are realistically in place and likely from just above the piano cause you can hear the inside of the box.  At first I thought there may have been a pick-up on the bass but after having checked and tightened the bolts around my mid/bass drivers I am less inclined to think so.

This is the first remastered album I've heard from Steve Hoffman and Kevin Gray and I'm totally impressed.  180g and quiet as a mouse and realistically dynamic.  The album cover, too.  Seems like a lot o love went in to this.  Thanks, Jerome.

Jerome sent this to me to audition.  Jerome is nursing hurt feelings cause of an irrational send off he got a couple of weeks ago.  I don't blame either cat.  I mean shit happens, dunnit?  I would like to see him back.  Pull on yer boots, my man.

Robin,

I have Amina Figarova's "Come Escape w/Me," "Sketchs" and "Above the Clouds" all on order and arriving over the next couple of weeks due to being on back order.  You don't have to deal with that since you are downloading them.

Hey - thank you back at you and the other posters on this thread for introducing me to some missed or forgotten jazz treasures too.   My lists of 'wants' seems to get longer verses shinking even though I am ordering some.  AAMOF, I have been hunting for the Eddie Palmieri "Superimposition" cd for several months....the least expensive has been $23.  It's all about waiting.

While waiting I am listening to some Dave Valentin "Light Struck" and Azymuth "Curumim"
