One.2 on its way
« on: 22 Jan 2011, 08:18 pm »
My One.2 is scheduled for delivery today, getting pretty exited.  I bought the WAF-1 speakers and gizmo amp combo from chasehometheater a little over a month ago as my first real foray into the speaker world.  I was so impressed with the sound of this system that I've boxed up all my headphones and decided to upgrade the amp.  I'm trying to keep my expectations for the One.2 in check but honestly i'm doing a pretty bad job of that right now.

Received the amp and been listening for about hour.  So far i'm very impressed with this amp, it beats my gizmo amp in every way straight out of the box. The first thing I noticed was an increase in bass, which was very welcome.  The One.2 also seems more detailed with a blacker background.  What has impressed me the most so far though is how the One.2 sounds at low volume.  Its hard to describe but at low volumes the music seems to hold onto the weight and depth that I usually only get from turning up the volume.  The music seems powerful even at low listening levels.  This is important to me because I listen near field and work second shift.  I can't crank the volume when I get home at midnight.  All this within just an hour or so of listening and the stock power supply.

1) ups and downs
2) love
3) questions about upgrades
4) power supply and cap upgrade
5) raised expectations
6) audiophilia / need to try other amps
7) return to the ONE.2/TWO.2

that's the drill...

That is great to hear!  The low volume listening impressions that is.  I have just ordered the Two.2 with power supply upgrade and cap upgrade....I will be doing my fair share of both low volume and louder, but really good to hear that it may excel at both.
The amp is on its way to me now from the States and should be here next week.

Hmmm......So Seth, should I just break in with the stock power supply, so I can enjoy the thrill of an upgraded one in a month's time?
No...I don't have that kind of self control!  I cannot wait to get this amp here.

Hehe, hey Eddie.

I do know that our "new" DAC prototype (post Mardis) blows away anything that we've put it up against and you know our network and you know what we're using for A:B.  Blows them away.  That and we're not using a Sabre DAC (actual chip selection may remain confidential long-term).

When we'll be able to get it into production is a question I can't answer with certainty right now.  Last year I refunded 5 deposits on the Mardis DAC.

This one is considerably better sounding, that's all I can say.  I'll post when we have production prototypes to send around for listening tests and then I'll open up a discounted pre-order period.

Haha... we'll be sending the final spec out to our OEM next week.  From there, everything will most definitely go to hell (as it usually does).  When I know that the project is on-track, I will consider accepting money.  Love you Tommy!

Ha. Sounds like the easy part is done. Now to deal with production. Always a pain.

Also, will it still come with the tube buffer inside and is it a separate?

Just wondering, I don't want to duplicate equipment with my buffered M901 :)

hi seth,
are you thinking about a USB input (o something like this) to DAC for connection with a multimedia station+hardisk  ?
