Inductors
« on: 2 Jan 2011, 03:12 pm »
Happy New Year, music-lovers!

I have searched the forum and find little information about the inductors used in the ONE or TWO amps (save for the $10K Amidons (?)). I first learned of Tripath amps through Audiocostruire. Though I moved on to Virtue, the Audiocostruire.com site lists inductor upgrades using enamelled Litz cabling for improved sonics.

Has anyone tried these in their Virtue amps, or any other types of inductors? What a re the values used in the ONE and TWO amps? 15uH?

They're custom, 15uH.  We had purchased nearly $10k inductors from Amidon which could not handle our current and were thrown in the trash.  We ended up paying 5x less for a better performing inductor.  We use traditional nickel-torroids in Sensation.  They're better but not much better.

Thanks for the reply!

Do you recommend experimenting with the inductors in the same way as with the amp's caps, or is it not worth it?

Not worth it.  We did as well as possible given the form factor.  PSU and cap changes will offer dramatic improvements.
