Will the Icon HDP sample a 88 kHz file ?
« on: 12 Sep 2010, 02:34 pm »
I seem to remember reading somewhere else that the icon HDP would not handle a 88kHz sampling rate, although it will, of course, do 96kHz.

If true, what are my options to play (admittedly only a few) my 88 kHz downloads ?    Do they have to be dithered down to 44.1 with something like Audacity ?  (I am using use FooBar 2000 for playback.)

Cheers,
Jeff

It will not handle an 88.2 sample rate file as I discovered on mine.  If you are using Foobar, you can use the resampler plug-in to set everything to output at 96 kHz, which isn't ideal, but gets around the issue.

Hi
The quality of resampling varies between softwares  - I like "Wave Editor" or "Sample Manager" for the Mac. Sound Forge Pro 10 for Windows seems to use the same, iZotope algorithm, which appears to be the standard used in studio sound processing, though I have no experience with it.
