Integrated amp suggestions for an HT3
« on: 12 Nov 2011, 09:11 am »
Can anyone suggest me the best Integrated Amp for the HT3.
I can consider a Power amp with a Passive preamp as well.
Also into consideration is a Integrated with a DAC inbuilt....
Thank you.

I assume you know, but Van Alstine (AVA) makes a very nice integrated. AVA equipment driving Salk speakers is a tough combo to beat. However, I have come across the Anthem 225 integrated which you might want to consider. Its 225 watts per channel, MM phono input, backlit remote, headphone jack, excellent build quality and above all it sounds WAY better than it should for the price. Its received a lot of positive reviews and awards. Heres a few links and a pic:

Check out the Arte Forma integrated. I think the distributor is Cryo Parts.

I'm sitting here listening to the KWI-200 at this moment.  It's outstanding and everything Dan said it would be.  It will have a DAC as an option very soon I believe (phono stage too).  If it's in your price range - do consider!!   :thumb:

I've really been wanting to find more comments on the Harman Kardon HK 990 integrated. The few reviews I read indicate it's top class and a very listenable piece of equipment. Seems like a little HK warmth might suit the HT3's. Also, HK has lowered the price.

Though if I had the money, an Accuphase E-460 would be in my sights.

Its 222 watts per channel, MM phono input, backlit remote, headphone jack, excellent build quality and above all it sounds WAY better than it should for the price. I didn't know Anthem made an integrated amp.  If it's anything like (or better) than my AVM20 I would highly recommend it. :thumb:

Naim SuperNait may be worth thinking about.

The HT3's woofer can be astounding in the bass department, but in my opinion it needs to be controlled, and this can be pretty difficult to accomplish depending on the system and synergy involved.  My advice is to not compromise when it comes to powering the HT3's.  An integrated is a handy solution, but please be sure to go "all out" if you can, as the HT3 deserves it and will truly reward you when this is accomplished.

I don't have any recommendations regarding an integrated piece; I'm sorry about that.  I just felt it was necessary to ensure you know how important woofer control is when it comes to the HT3.  Personally, I'd go the power amp and passive preamp route you mentioned.

Why limit your choices to integrated and passive pre/amp options?  I would suggest providing a budget and list of options you are looking for (remote, phono stage, etc.) and ask for suggestions.

Lots of people like AVA with Salk speakers, I'd also suggest looking at Modwright if it's in your budget.  There are lots of options but without knowing your budget it's hard to recommend anything. Also, I would not want a built in DAC  because that's the one piece most likely to be obsolete in three or four years.   Justly opinion.

Good luck

HP has a lot of experience with his HT3's.

HP, we can't think of an integrated with enough horsepower to drive the HT3's like you know they should be driven.  Something will suffer; be it volume or bass control.  If low volumes are okay then there are several integrated's with 150 wpc or more to chose from.  You can see many choices to investigate further by browsing Audiogon first.  Pretty good odds that most integrated's won't have the power supplies to push the HT3's as required for "normal" levels.

Look at the Coda int on Agon. You won't find anything else that comes close. I find it hard to believe if it's still not sold.

I heard this preamp driving a pair of Maggie 1.6's a while back and it was. Very impressive.  Great suggestion.

At a lower price point, you could try something like a Wyred 4 Sound or something by Music Fidelity. On the upper end of the scale you could try a Mcintosh or a Simaudio

For 1999 from a awesome USA company . Looks like a good seller ,, no affiliation whatsoever , like for one thing that it's not sold is still a sign of people watching their cash more closer then ever and well I just find it hard to believe it's still there but somebody is going to get one he'll of a piece of gear. If that doesn't drive those speakers no matter how power hungry they are.

I like this Vincent Hybrid Integrated amp at 250wpc at 4 ohms.  Vincent amps have a nice smooth sound.

If you want to drop some coin then this Magnum Dynalab amp-It also has a built in Hi Rez DAC!

born- 1,140 watts per channel probably enough  :icon_lol:
I'm sure there are better sounding systems but I never want
to hear one.........satisfaction is a nice neighborhood.

Would like to know how they are driven.

A friend of mine (TJHUB) has the Odyssey Stratos Monoblocks (the extreme version I think) and they are awesome IMO!  Granted he doesn't have the HT3 but rather the HT2-TL's, but I'd think those Strators would drive the HT3's very nicely.  I highly recommend them, Alwyn.
